I think Gus will come in 1-2 mill cheaper.
My guess is he takes a 1.5 mill one year somewhere.

Outside of something league min yeah.
Whats the point of bringing in the defense and goaltending to backstop an offense that has looked anemic at important times.
I will keep throwing out Dadanov's name until he's gone.

I would like Gustaffson as a 3rd pairing PP specialist but at this point, I want to spend the rest of our money on forwards

Hinostroza to Florida for 1 year and $1M. Florida is having a good UFA period.
Be nice if the Flames could get in on at least one value signing.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Flames absolutely need to bolster the right side both on D and F.
Expect trades. Maybe soon. Things feel awfully quiet don't they?

Yep, Flames I would think are now working to try to generate a trade.
Their offense is very average, and has to improve......

I’d love to see a combination of Hanifin and Ryan moved out for futures to allow us to bring in Toffoli and an additional value contract in the bottom 6.

A shame we couldn't get a Mangiapane contract done already to have a better idea of what the cap situation will be

Amazing what he brings to the table. He was such a factor in stopping the likes of Getzlaf and MacKinnon in the playoffs when he was needed the most lol Both those players ran circles around him. The Flames got lucky Schiefle didn't play the series otherwise, he would have done the same to Backlund.
What are the Flames paying him all that money for? So he can defend against guys like Monahan? I think Derek Ryan can do as good of a job with that. To me, this is a case of fans falling in love with the player instead of looking at the reality.. I wonder if other teams fans view Backlund the same way - I don't think so.

The flames issues in the past few playoffs have been lack of timely goaltending and lack of 5 on 5 scoring from the top players; Backlund again has easily been the most consistent playoff performer amongst our top 6 forwards and it’s not even close. The story your trying to narrate isn’t checking out Keenan, Backlund is a legit two-way Center who puts up consistent numbers and skates against the opposing teams top players, it’s not his fault our Goalies have played like sieves in the biggest playoff games and our top scorers disappeared.

|
Why did they let Tanev go then? He said on a few occasions how much he loves playing in Vancouver and how much he wants to stay there. Benning reportedly told his agent that re-signing Markstrom was priority #1 due to cap space limitations. They haven't re-signed Markstrom, they have allowed Tanev to leave and now they are looking for top-4 D? Something doesn't add up. Does anyone else see a problem here?

I didn't call you a liar. I was referring to the snippet that you were quoting. I was discussing the source, and wasn't buying it.

Benning returning to form as Dim Jim, after a few good drafts had people fooled that he might be a good GM

Agreed, 1st line 5 on 5 generated next to nothing in terms of offense.
A team will never win, with that type of results.
Not quite sure what the Flames are planning....

I see a GM that got distracted by a big fish in OEL and it dominos into him missing out on Markstrom, Tanev and potentially Toffoli and others. Personally Hamonic would be a slight downgrade on what Tanev brought and Tanev appeared to be beloved by his team mates so it’s odd that Benning would not prioritize internal players after a 2nd round playoff exit.
