Yup 1.5 + performance bonus I believe. Mostly games played then some for winning playoff rounds. So AAV of 2 mil but cap hit of 1.5
Edit: the actual wording
Games Played Bonus: $250,000 (20, 25, 30, 35 & 40 gms) + Playoff Bonus: $125,000 if the club wins RD1 and he plays in at least 2 games; $125,000 if the club wins RD2 and he plays in at least 2 games

This is hilarious. Smith with the 11.31 GAA and .783 sv% against Chicago, yet Edmonton is so desperate for goaltending they not only re-sign him but pay him a premium well over league minimum. Never change Oilers.

What a great signing. Have to give Smith and in particular his agent credit; they know how to extort money from that organization and stick around.
The HFOil thread is hilarious. God I've missed that. Legit happy for Smith that he was able to pull this off LOL.

I don't understand why they would go back to Smith with other options available. He's 38 years old and won't likely be better next season. In fact he will likely be worse.

So at the most it is a 1.75 million dollar deal.

Plus he’s a high risk for injury.

Honestly, I think a lot of goalies look at that team and their history. They knock off a couple years of earning potential, so unless you can get a long term that is the place to avoid if you want a show me contract or rebuild yourself. Smith is just taking free money at this point.

Pretty much. If you're a goalie you don't go to Edmonton unless it's an insane contract or it's your last option. If Smith doesn't re-sign, he probably retires. This is just free money, and he can do what he was going to do anyway, which is golf with Neal on road trips

Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty, eighteen years in all
Freezing slow time, away from the world

Who says that the Oilers had other available options?

Like Smith’s $1M value is $1.5-2M in Edmonton, every other goalie likely has an Edmonton premium.

Lies. They took the McDavid discount, every one of them!

What are some recent examples of players who rejuvenated their careers by signing in Edmonton? Seems like a flawed strategy.

Edmonton is the last stop before the AHL/Europe.
I think Barrie made a huge mistake here. Unless they trade him at the TDL which a good chance they will because they are going to be nowhere near the playoffs this season.

Not even accurate. Kassian's career would have rejuvenated no matter where he went. His career made a come-back because he got sober.

Remaining in Edmonton is not a rejuvenated career.
