At that cap hit, I hope we can sign him to a mid term contract (4 years or so)

Made him a UFA at 27, seems like great asset management.

Meh. If you get that many productive NHL years out of a 5th round pick you've already won in the long run as far as I'm concerned.
To get him to commit to 5 years will take a much bigger AAV in my opinion.
3 years is a long time. I'd take it and run myself.

Is there any way we can send Lucic and a couple of draft picks to Ottawa, Buffalo, New Jersey, or Detroit?
And then we sign Hall?
Please Hockey Gods, please! I won’t ask for anything ever again, I promise.

That's why you sign him to 2 years, so he is a RFA and then you give him an additional 3-4 years based on actually having more than 1 full season in the NHL.

I thought two years took him to UFA as well, if not that's my mistake and you are 100% correct, a 2 year deal would be the optimum signing length for the Flames.

Why would Lucic ok that?
Forget about Hall, he’s not coming here unless the Flames move Gaudreau and Ryan.

Those two aren't even in the same damn conversation.

This conversation has not aged well for you Crown in the last 18 hours. Clearly if Barrie had to sign with the Oilers on a1 year 3.5M deal...every other GM agreed on this evaluation of Barrie...

Its almost strange how they hone in on certain teams each offseason just a coincidence I'm sure. First was Arizona with Smith and Stone. Then Carolina with Lindholm, Hanifin and Ryan. Then Oilers with Rieder, Lucic and Talbot. Now the Canucks with Markstrom, Tanev, Domingue. I wouldnt even be surprised to see Toffoli sign if Hall goes elsewhere.

Maybe Blaster is right and we only have one pro scout, and he watches just one team a year

Don't think so. Treliving keeps his trades as quiet as possible. If he isn't dangling Johnny his head isn't right. This is the time when they can get max value. Don't Phaneuf this one up.

Backlund would be Captain if not for Gio, the Flames are trying to bring in more leadership (ie: Tanev) not ship it out.

Backlund has been part of this mess for way too long. Don't believe he would be captain. Too much money for what he brings to the table. Ship him out to change the dynamics of the team.

I see you calling others out for suggesting trades with no salary coming back and here you are doing the same with Ryan?
|
You'll notice who it was too and the very minimal return. We're giving him away just so we don't have to take salary back, and helping Ottawa get to the salary floor.

We could perhaps see Välimäki in the top 4 soon but Kylington will probably never be on Calgary's top pair.

I was more focusing on functional pairings more than who was top pair, bottom pair, or anything else. I think those pairs are setup to where you can play them equally and not have to shelter a pairs minutes. Valimaki needs to be sheltered. Not having played in a year means he's going to need to sheltered minutes to get his game back.

Tanev is a top 4 defensemen.

Yeah, likely is. Again, was focusing in on functional pairs more than anything.

Trading Johnny for picks and prospects, to get cap space ,might sound great to the fan base , but I doubt it sounds great to Hall. Other teams that are vying for him aren’t getting rid of their best player to do it. These teams want to add Hall to complement with their top player or players. I would love Hall on team but I don’t see it happening.

I was of this thinking too but then the Flames got a new best player yesterday.

Here come the trades as teams don't get what they were looking for in free agency.

I think Hall is headed to Nashville. Colorado obvious out, so they go to plan B and bring Saad in. Strange because I thought Zadorov was a key piece on their blueline.

C'mon, Hall. Reveal your short list so I can either get excited, or move on with my life.
