Maybe Brad is having his zoom call with Taylor Hall at.the moment.
 This could explain the wait.

A little off topic, but does Tre still have authority to spend to the cap? Does he have to get clearance from Murray Edwards? Could be part of the holdup.

Cap friendly had Markstom as a Flame and removed him.

The Flames have messed up no matter how this plays out.

The contract will be too big

 or

It will fall through as the Flames back out after they verbally agreed

 or

Markstrom will take the Flames offer (or lower) from the Oilers and turn into a Swedish Carey Price.

I hope that this deal gets finalized and I hope it comes in at around 6 x 6. But I do think there needs to be a point where the Flames/Treliving say that's our final offer. He's not going back to the Canucks now. A few teams looking for a goalie have made their moves. Maybe the Flames have a bit of leverage in that regard. Let him see what else is out there for offers. He might end up in a much worse situation.

Right. Which is not a nominee for Vezina, much less a Vezina winner, or a "Vezina MVP", whatever that means.

To be totally clear, he just had a career season, clearly the best of his career, and it still wasn't a top 3 performance in the league. I'm not saying he wasn't excellent this year, because he was. I'm not saying he isn't a good goalie, because he is. But let's not go nuts. The reason there is hesitancy to a long term deal at this number, and that's because this isn't someone who is at the top of the league at his position every year and there is risk that this is too much for too long, particularly given his age.

He said he has clearance.

The holdup should be simply that he shouldn't be handing out dumb deals.

They haven't signed a goalie yet but they've made a few depth forward signings and don't have the cap for Markstrom anymore. Rumour is they're looking at Greiss and Crawford
