I think the concerns are coming from the fact that clearly people’s sources who are reporting on this thought it was done but now it isn’t. Surely shows that there’s been some changes instead of just negotiating. Obviously can’t always trust a source but clearly some sources felt confident to say it was close or done.
I also appreciate everyone is trying to break the story.

Don't think anybody has an issue with $6M. It's the 6-7 years for a 31 year old that is the issue.

Jesus Christ. He's obviously down with your team. The season doesn't start for 3 month. You're 3 hours in. Breathe.

Yeah, I think most here would be tap-dancing with joy if its 5 years at $6M.

We're talking like the Flames are offering Bobrovsky money...
$6M is your going rate for a #1 netminder.

Fine with 7 because if they don’t win in the next 3 years anyway, they are in a full rebuild IMO

Markström is one of the top UFAs on the market. These deals are MUCH more difficult to consummate in a short term.

The reason this isn't done is because the Flames don't want that.

I have an issue with it if it's for more than 5 years. It should be 4x6 for who he is, but 5 is "meh, fine, fair enough". 6 years makes it an overpay, but not disastrous. 7 years is "yikes".

Being afraid of a 7 year deal that could just as easily be bought out is foolish in my eyes. You don’t project 6 years down the road. 6 years from now it could be a rebuild and we need the salaries to make the cap floor, who knows.
You need top end goaltending to win a cup. Get top end goaltending.

6x7 I'd not be the happiest about.
6x6 is fair value for Markstrom.
5.5x6 I'd be happy with.

Okay here is the flip side of the argument for just give him what he wants.
Who else is going to give him that? A lot of goalies moved today, who else is going to commit 7 years x $6 million if the Flames walk away?

Flames close to signing G Jacob Markstrom (6mil AAV? term is being negotiated)

Closer to Holtby's number.
If they get their 6 years then I'm fine with 6 per.

So 6 years and $36M is fine, otherwise you want 7 years and closer to $30M?

Sounds like with all teams backing out and grabbing another goalie both teams are playing chicken.

Strategy from Treliving.
Delay this long enough that all the other teams sign the rest of the goalies and fill their needs, then it's just Markstrom left on the market and the Flames are his only option.
Boom 5 years @ $5M AAV
