I could be wrong but I believe they briefly tried it and then switched him back to LW.

Take Fleury off VGK hands and get the 1st & 2nd round picks from them
Then trade Gaudreau, 1st + 2nd for Barkov.

I think it has more to do with having a 38 year old $5.5mil goalie than it does on the historical contracts for the Flames. The thought scares me, as fun as it would make the next 3 seasons.

Well, no, he didn’t. He spent pretty much the whole year to the left of Backlund. Some time to the left of Lindholm. Mangiapane was always on the right side, after they traded Frolik.

Right, and Monahan was a 21-22 year old RFA, so long term was what the Flames wanted, not him.
Markstrom wants a contract that goes to age 37 - that’s tough to swallow.

Sounds like Vancouver is out
Irfaan Gaffar @irfgaffar
By the sounds of things it looks like the door is closing on Markstrom in Vancouver. On to the Battle of Alberta.

Monahan:
Quote:
"This is where I wanted to be, and a seven-year commitment is huge," Monahan said. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
Monahan told TSN in July that he preferred a multiyear contract rather than a shorter bridge deal.
"I definitely want to be there for a long time," he said then. "So I would prefer a longer-term contract, but that's not up for me to decide. So I think I want to be there, I want to be in Calgary for the rest of my career, so that's something that I'm looking forward to doing."
“I don’t want to play anywhere else. I would sign as long as I could,” Monahan said at the press conference.

Wow, so he will be a Flame. Now the question is for how long and how much.

Oilers are irrelevant. No sane, in demand goalie or agent will sign there.
Markstrom will get shelled on the ice and he's going to get shelled off of it when they continue to lose because McDavid and Draisatl won't commit to defense.
Imagine 7 years of being told you suck and having the golden boys absolved of all responsibility.
If i'm Treliving, I call whatever bluff Markstrom's agent has if he brings up Edmonton.

Bring it on. Let’s build the core around the Swedes:
- Markstrom
- Andersson
- Backlund
- Lindholm
- Tkachukstrom
New third jersey will also be blue and gold.

Good. The deals being offered by Edmonton and Calgary are just too much for too long.

Not that I disagree, but I really wish they would stop using Burke as some type of conduit to the Flames and what they are thinking. I think when Burke left it was something like this.
The door was shut to Burke, and for good reason. The guy doesn't know when to shut up.

As per sources, the Calgary Flames have signed Jacob Markstrom to a 4 year deal (4.5M AAV)
