Jaimie Oleksiak's career high at the same age was 14 points, so he was more of an offensive juggernaut.

I just looked at one team, not sure what the offensive production was for other dmen in the league.
I feel like I don’t even need to search these stats to know that they aren’t true lol

Maybe not a slam dunk at the time but pretty close.
He was highly touted just some concerns with speed/his weight.

Not sure how many people here were upset with it, but I seem to recall a lot of us being happy/thinking we made out like bandits with this pick.
This is what was said of Andersson when he was drafted:

"Has a strong lower base, so he is able to compete and win battles against bigger forwards. Is very agile moving from the defensive zone to the attack. Is also a physical presence who is always willing to do the dirty work. Needs to improve his decision-making process in order to maximize his National Hockey League output, as he has a tendency to not always be in the right place at the right time. Must develop greater consistency for the NHL."

Far from a can't miss prospect. I just find the outrage on draft day funny. Many posters have never watched this guy player and they are upset. Kuznetsov has great upside.

Meh, Oleksiak had 4 points in his first USHL season and he was not coming from a foreign country with language barriers.

Here is U19 d-man scoring for NHL drafted players last season in the NCAA

edit: and I believe most on that list are a year older than Kuznetsov

He really did. He is a draft riser and historically that is usually a good thing.

You think Esa Lindell hadn’t ever scored a point in his career before he was drafted?

With any luck in the 3rd round, add in Dmitri Ovchinnikov and Alexander Pashin. If we can snag those two guys in the 3rd, this draft...

Again.. I don't think people realize how difficult it is to play in the USHL at 16.. or the NCAA at 17 years old.

The fact that Kuznetsov is playing above his peers speaks volumes to his potential.

Is there an example of a top 4 D in the entire league who produced that little offensively?

Hjarmalsson comes to mind.

I don't give a #### how many points this guy can score as long as he has good gap control, can skate backwards, can separate guys from the puck, and has good transitional abilities.

That question mark could be this guy,

I always wonder if the brothers go on scouting trips together.

I really like what I’m reading about his 4 way mobility and agressive gaps. His profile sounds a little bit like parayko to me. The next year will be key to see if the flames’ scouts got it right. Kind of high risk high reward

Over a point per game with 20+ goals in junior A for his draft year with a PPG at the under 18’s
