Watching the Flyers series, I'm not sure I would trade Johnny for Konecny. We lose that trade easily.

I wonder, Barzal is RFA, what would it take to get him?

They won't trade him I don't think. But like you said, hes an RFA. You could offer sheet him with a big number and hope Lou doesn't match depite saying he would match any offer.

You'd have a legit 23 year old #1 C then, but he'd be eating up $11 million of cap or more, and you wouldn't have a 1st round pick in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Barzal might not be generational, but I would think he's essentially untouchable; without him, the Islanders don't really have any star players. Sure they have lots of good players, but Barzal is kind of the jewel in their crown.

We could offer-sheet him, but unless we're signing him to a team-crippling contract and giving up 4 1sts, it will be matched. Trade-wide, unless he requests a trade, I can't see him being available for anything we could realistically offer.

Gaudreau is a better player right now, though his points this year aren’t a lot different. But Kocecny is 23, and has a great contract, whereas you have to move Johnny this season or you lose almost all leverage. His limited NTC is almost a full NTC.

ETA: Johnny becomes really cheap in real dollars as soon as this year’s signing bonus uis paid.

Taking Elliotte rumours seriously—in this case, that there is interest from the Flames in acquiring OEL—is not the same as believing that either the Flames first round pick or Mark Giordano are in play.

He's been close or bang on with a lot of Flames related rumours in recent years. It's why I'm pretty worried he brought up the Flames. As well all of Treliving's biggest trades have centered around defensemen as he seems to have a philosophy of building out from the back end. Hopefully that was nothing more than a wild guess.

If you separate the player from the contract and acquisition cost, OEL would be a great add, especially if you aren't in the "tear it all down" camp.
Unfortunately in the real world, he's signed to an absolutely brutal contract, and despite that, would almost definitely be very expensive to acquire.
That's a hard no for me.
