Can't see the Sabres trading their only center. Would be a huge gamble on Cozens

The Rangers definitely have the assets to get Eichel if he were available.
You have to winder if the Sabres would want to deal him out east though, if they could get a comparable return from a western conference team. They wouldn't give two ####s about where Eichel would want to go.

I guess everyone forgets the Iginla years..
Let’s trade Monahan, our best center, who has done nothing but score 22-34 goals every year he has been in the league.
Backlund is 31, he isn’t going to be playing at the level we have come to love for very much longer. Bennett is getting his feet wet again at C and Lindholm is probably better off at RW given our depth there.
I get talking about trading Gaudreau and Gio but Monahan?
Come on now.

If the Rangers dangle Lafreniere there is nothing the Flames can do to match that type of offer

No one throws Konecny's name around here. Gaudreau for Konecny? Sign Hall.

That's what I've been wanting for a while now. I thought it was possible before but I don't see why Philly makes that trade now frankly.

It's been thrown around.
In a bubble I think Gaudreau is still the better player with his huge offensive capabilities, but Konecny's break out year combined with his steal of a contract would make it very hard to pry him out of there I would think.
Last off season the Flames probably could have gotten him, Frost and Myers for Gaudreau if they'd talked with the Flyers.

That Couturier, Ghost for Gaudreau, Kylington deal is not a rip off for the Flames IMO.
I get that Couturier is the Flyers #1C but Giroux could take that role again easily, and don't forget they still have Hayes, Laughton and two really good C prospects in Frost and Patrick.
Also, if the Flames were to do that deal in the off season, I hope to hell they hang onto Monahan. He'd be just fine as a 2C, and maybe he'd learn a thing or two from Couturier as well.
Couturier
Monahan
Backlund
Bennett
Ryan
Probably have to deal Ryan to clear some cap space though.

Do they want to shed the guy who is underpaid by ~$2M so badly they give away a guy who is underpaid by at least $3M?

Beg to differ, if anything I'm getting flashbacks to Langkow and Conroy. Overall they had some pretty productive but not amazing years riding someone else's coattails. But we knew neither of them were #1 centers on a contender, and we saw that over and over again when the playoffs rolled around.
Isn't that pretty much where we're at right now with Monahan?

I don't think Tree will sell low on Johnny, so if his value is as damaged in reality as it is on CP, I don't think he gets traded.
Maybe trade Ryan and Rittich for what picks you can get and then:
Sign Hall, Barrie, and Talbot. Fill out the roster with affordable deals where you can.
Hall - Monahan - Dube
Gaudreau - Bennett - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Lucic - UFA/promotion - UFA/promotion
UFA/promotion
Hanifin - Andersson
Giordano - Barrie
Valimaki - Kylington
UFA/promotion
Talbot
UFA/promotion
It actually works from a cap-perspective. It means you're exposing Backlund and Mangiapane in all likelihood (unless Bennett bombs), and likely exposing Giordano.

The Ghost deal has 3 years left though, and before it expires they will have to extend Giroux, Sanheim, Hart and Couturier (or Gaudreau if they did this trade). Possibly Myers too if they just sign him to a two year bridge deal this off season.

I don’t buy it.
Monahan is the best center we’ve had since #25.
I do think maybe he has been riding shotgun with Gaudreau for too long and may seem stale.

Good chance they leave JVR and/or Voracek unprotected and they get selected. Losing a 30+ player and getting tons of cap room will be a pretty good outcome for them.
Giroux (NMC)
Hayes (NMC)
Couturier
Konecny
Patrick
Lindblom
Farabee? (don't recall the rules... he has 52 gp this year, presume he'll need a spot?)
Provorov
Sanheim
Myers

According to the CapFriendly expansion simulator Farabee is exempt. Maybe because he was drafted in 2018?
