You can even set your watch to it during Oilers broadcasts.

If Edmonton starts to lose, they quickly bring up the glory of the 80s.

All fanbases do this to varying degrees, but in the Oilers case their contemporary players are embued with all manner of predestined glory. I call this the Schremp Projection.

Is Katz the only common denominator left in all of this putrid pathetic failure?

Lowe, you can't forget Lowe. Probably can add Staples, Jones and....well there are a lot of people and I don't have the time to list them. If they had phone books still, I would start with the Edmonton area.

The best name suggestion I have heard for their football team is the Edmonton Eighties. That sums up Edmonton.

3. He used the Oilers to tug at Edmontonian heart-strings to get an enormous land deal which has repaid his investment several fold.

4. Oilers fans (Tier 1) are idiots. They keep buying Season tickets regardless of price or quality of product.

5. Oilers fans (Tiers 2 and lower) are idiots. They keep buying tickets to see this team regardless of of price or quality of product and either live or on TV...sometimes they've even bought tickets to watch the Team in the arena, on TV.

Sure, he'd probably love to have his team in the playoffs and winning, the playoffs are largely profit, but it really doesnt matter much withing context.

NHL teams dont really make a lot of money off of operations, rather in increase in value of assets.

So yes, his land bequeathment from the City of Edmonton has probably been worth more than any operational profits he had or could have made even if the Oilers went all the way every year.

Make no mistake about it, the Winner of 'Katz buying the Oilers' is and was always going to be Katz himself.

As much as he may profess to love Edmonton despite never spending a second there he doesnt absolutely have to, what he loves more than Edmonton is stealing Edmontonians' money.
100% agree with the above. Katz has executed my own "own the Oilers and make them suck" plan. It is remarkable. Hopefully we get a death bed confession in a few decades that he's actually a Flames/Canuck fan.

Absolutely it was a fluke. Roster is on the rise and they only need to stay the course.

much like Al Bundy. Al works in the shoe store which is much like being in edmonton and when he realizes how pathetic he is, he will always refer back to the glory days and the 4 touchdown day at Polk High . no difference.

Hahaha! That's a little on the nose, no? It feels like a sure sign that this is a satirical piece.

The Oilers are "such a young team."

I see Kevin is pushing the “ Oilers are such a young team” narrative on the media again. Holy hell we’ve been hearing about the young upstart Oilers since 1981. It is such a load of crap. There are many younger teams than the Oilers in the NHL. But keep coming up with excuses, you clowns. You know what they say about excuses?
