Agree. Rossetti would have been game changing design, but maybe there were factors there that made it non competitive.

I just hope we don’t follow the base model modern area that Edmonton did. Its like winning corvette with absolutely zero optional features inside.

I hope people temper their expectations a bit.

Little Caesars arena cost $863M USD.

The budget for this arena is only $500M CAD.

Expect corners to be cut, features like a practice rink to be removed, and the lower bowl to end up even bigger than anticipated.

I was at the 2 road games the Flames played in Edmonton this year. I thought Rogers Place was an absolutely beautiful building and had no issue with it. Having said that I was fortunate to get the company seats and sat lower bowl and faced zero issues with getting drinks and using the washroom.

Not sure what the second bowl is like though? I have heard a lot of complaints about the washrooms there but personally haven’t experienced that in my 2 games there

Didnt Rogers Place wind up over-budget and poorly designed?

The split between the two bowls is extremely pronounced. I would rather sit in the nosebleeds at the saddledome on those f'in benches than in the second bowl of rogers place.

The more I think about this the more fear I have that I will not be able to take my son to flames games without breaking the bank

That's a given. Owners these days want to make sports more of an "experience" where you go less frequently, but spend more while you are there. It's less about attending a hockey game, and more about it being your big night out where you go all out.

I'm sure in the end it makes them more money, but I think this type of strategy tends to price out families and will have some longer-term negatively consequences... fewer kids will be attending the games, and thus fewer will get hooked by the sport at that crucial age. It's definitely not a recipe for building long-term hardcore fans.

If it's going to be $500 bucks just for tickets for a family of 4 in a ridiculous upper bowl, we won't even be going once a year.

How do they balance that with the desire to sell season tickets? They can't be expecting season tickets holders to be shelling out big bucks for 42 games. Well, not all holders. But, I agree with your view and think you're likely bang on, just wondering how they balance it.

Two and half years (3/4th's actually) to build an arena? That's par for course.

They're building on a parking lot in an area where all the necessary utility work has already been done.

Its not like the stadium in Edmonton is the only thing they have ever built and that the building will be the same

If you look at the other buildings around the league, this is actually a long timeline from groundbreaking to opening.

The Islanders' new arena had its groundbreaking last September and it's scheduled to open next fall, just 2 years later.

T-Mobile was less than 2 years. Rogers Place was 2.5 years. Pittsburgh and New Jersey were both right around the 2 year mark. Winnipeg and Glendale were both well under 2 years.

Little Caesars is the only one in the last 20 years that has come close to a 3 year construction period.

Yeah Rossetti and HOK have partnered before so it wouldn’t be out of the question.

I really hope it happens. The principles of the inverted bowl make sense and I want to see a team actually take the chance to make it work.
