The shoulders are the deciding factor for knocking a puck down to gain possession.
So on the first touch, the puck was below his shoulders, and for the 2nd the puck was contacted below the crossbar.
Toronto recently scored a similar goal where Spezza knocked the puck down to a teammate above the crossbar, which is legal.

I’d like to think Tkachuk was thinking all that as the play went on too.

Yeah. Tkchuck goal was after he quite obviously played it down with a high stick. Play should have been whistled down. No idea how it counted.

because it wasn't whistled down...like the goal in Colorado last week
you can't go back on that, it would be like going back and saying "that should have been a penalty"
You can only review the last touch via video
and it was a ####ing insane goal...Ref/Bennett can EAD tonight

But it should have been whistled down. Just like Colorado last week.

It’s just crazy how polar opposite Tkachuk and Bennett are.

If it happened like you say here, good goal for sure. But I’ve watched it a few times now and there is one look which clearly shows the puck above his shoulders.
But whatever. Reasonable people can disagree.

Could you elaborate on your opinion?
Edit....just saw your response to AC.

and the refs shouldn't have changed the standard with 25 seconds left

Because Tkachuk didn't score directly off a high stick, wouldn't the Kings have to challenge?

The highstick in the offensive zone leading to a goal is challengeable now, remember.
Obviously the Kings didn't think either touch was a highstick as both are reviewable now.

I feel like the team looks a little stale. Some turnover every year can be a good thing. Zucker, Kadri and Brown coming in would have been great

- Flames lucky to get a point after that horrific 1st period, didn’t deserve to win the game anyway
- Tkachuk willed the team back into the game
- Mangiapane looked excellent on the 2nd line
- Team is still extremely sloppy and in summer mode
- Another classic Sam Bennett stick infraction that cost the his team the game today
- Doughty with the OT winner was just fitting and definitely fuels the rivalry even more. Now the next game will have even more hype.

You can’t tell where the stick was relative to his head/shoulders from the camera angles we saw. I don’t think that was at all clear.
Also, Mangiapane needs more love. He looked great on the second line.

Yes they can. Remember when Landeksog highsticked the puck down in Game 1, they were talking about if he had done it in the offensive zone it could be challenged, but the neutral zone isn't challengeable.

Not sure why the Kings didn't challenge the hand pass by Monahan 20 seconds earlier.
