Put me in the Meh catagory for this contract.
If he gets 700 points next season his $8M is going to be deemed the bargain of the century.

Well, if you are saying Duchene and Johansen are second line centers, that is still better than the Flames.

By this logic, the Flames have one 2nd line center (Monahan) and 2 3rd line centers (Backlund and Ryan).

Didn't he have that contract when the trade went down and wasn't he good back then? I thought he was more of a "fall off" than a bad deal. Could be wrong, though.

I don't know that i would take any of Nashville's Centers over Monahan.

That is your opinion and I respect that.

All I am saying is that Duchene, Johansen, and Monahan are comparable. Monahan is not on another level so if the two of them are second line, then so is Monahan.

Traded for then signed with Nashville. And isn't a fall off what makes some deals bad?

Ah yes, that's what I was misremembering. I thought he signed in Ottawa, played really well then traded to Nashville.

And yeah, that is what makes a deal bad, haha. I just thought he was more of a random fall off than a "you should have known" fall off. But yeah, that info changes my opinion a bit, for sure.

According to advanced stats he’s more comparable to Kevin Hayes than an elite 1st line center.

Duchene has always been held in high regard as one of the league’s better players, but his results have lagged behind his reputation. Last year was a high mark for his production, but it came off a bloated 18 percent shooting percentage that Duchene is unlikely to repeat.

I was expecting more. It's still not great for a guy who is realistically a 2nd line center, but it isn't awful.

The guys best seasons were 70 point seasons 5 years apart, basically he's a soft and could give a damn 60 point player getting 8 zillion a year. who ever thinks this is a good deal just wait and see the outcome. this will be swift!

Preds fans calling this a steal. It may be reasonable, but certainly not a steal.

He just isn't a guy I want to build my team around, or spend $8M on. Nashville can have him for that price.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Duchene contract with Preds includes $28 million in signing bonus money. Year by year total: $10 mil, $8 mil, $10mil, $8mil, $9 mil, $6 mil, $5 mil.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Duchene has a 7-team No-trade clause the last three seasons of the contract

I am not a fan of Duchene. Still, this will work out early on for the preds, he will slot nicely in their top 6. I don't think this will age well though. I am not confident that a 35 year old Duchene will be worth 8 mil. Let alone at 33 years old.
