Man those were rough times.

Got to be Monahan's last game as a Flame. No fight, no desire to win, no intimidation -The Lady Bing trophy would look nice next to his pot pourri and scented candles.
I can't remember what she was talking about after the buzzer sounded to end the Flames season, but it was incredibly grating and not what she should've been going on about in that moment.

Not as much of a fan after that series.

Forget about the regular season points totals. That Avalanche team is very good. Not to excuse the Flames performance; they should have been much better. Nevertheless, the Avs are a legit good team, just like Columbus. Good goaltending, dominant forwards (x2), solid D, veteran experience, size, grit, will to win. What more do you want in a team? They will be a handful for anyone.

Maybe Johnny will start eating right amd try to get stronger after this. He needs to stop crying to the refs and man up. He needs to learn how to battle in the playoffs. It can be done but Monahan i have no hope for i hope he wins the lady trophy. He is injured way too often for a guy that plays a soft game. Ship him out.

Well 30 years of crap hockey will tend to do that.

The only team the Flames can beat in round 1 is Vancouver.

Monahan would be a great #2 center. Do we have cap space to overpay for a #1 center?

The Flames inability to stop MacKinnon was the key to the series. His line had 21 points between them and dominated every game. We needed the same from our top line and didn't get it.

The Avs were in playoff mode for the month of March as they battled for a playoff spot and finished the month on an amazing run. That in itself was a huge advantage while the Flames struggled to take it to the next level. Like the Lightning they couldn't find the game that made them a #1 seed in the west and the second best team overall.

Feel bad for Smith who played the series of his life. We all thought that goaltending might be the biggest worry going into the playoffs but it wasn't. Without his stellar play the series would have been over in 4 games.

I felt that the line shuffles we saw tonight should have happened in game 4. After the first 3 games it was quite clear that we needed to some something to generate more offence. Peter's was famous for ine shuffles during the season and in the playoffs he waited much too long.

Will be interesting to hear if Monahan was injured. He looked slow in this series and seemed to a step behind.

Another playoff and another Gaudreau disappearing act. Clearly he doesn't like the hitting and the Avs were very effective in getting him off his game. A jab here on his hands or a poke there and Johnny would be crying for a penalty. His needs to develop a stronger mental game and develop a mindset that allows him to rise above the hits that take him off his game.

I'd have no problems trading Gaudreau if we got a good return.

Chucky was not the player we saw in the regular season. He wasn't hitting or causing havoc in the crease area. Lindholm was doing more hitting than Chucky and that was surprising.

It's a sad day when the 4th line proved to be the most consistant of all. If only Gaudreau would play like Magnipane and go for the gritty areas to score goals. Hathaway was crashing and banging like we expected and Ryan was doing what he could to create scoring chances.

Someone get him the Captain America serum and we're good.

But yeah, I hope he takes this result as something that motivates him to make adjustments to his training and diet and devote himself to a more athletic lifestyle because it will only help him. It's the key for him to getting to the next tier, because he certainly has the talent.

I don't think Colorado is anywhere near in the same class as Columbus.

The last time we saw Sean Monahan with out Johnny Gaudreau was in 16/17 and I remember him almost getting scratched because of how bad he was.

Gaudreau can produce with anyone. He was even good with Derek Ryan when Monahan had a couple games off. We’ve also seen what he can do with an elite center like Nathan Mackinnon in the World Cup.

Really too bad we couldn’t land Barkov in 2013, team just couldn’t lose a few more games. If they had drafted a Selke contending 90 point center like him, the Flames would be dominant.

Brutal end to what was a promising year. Personally getting dominated by a team that barely made the playoffs was embarrassing and infuriating.

Worst part of the night for me was 4 goofs sitting behind me. 3 of them were wearing Avs jerseys and they were super obnoxious. They almost got kicked out in the first period and at the end of the game revealed themselves as Oilers fans. The one thing that gave me some comfort is they couldn’t me more than 22 so they were just children in 2006 and have known nothing but losing their entire lives. Like literally the most pathetic franchise in sports.

I am extremely sad and angered by this first round. I thought this year was different but we are halfway through Johnnys extension with 1 playoff win. Treliving made some great moves this summer but it wasn’t close to good enough. Interested to see what he does this summer but I am done with hockey after tonight for a while. I am not sure I will watch until next season

First game live. Interesting to see the team. Thought they looked dead on their feet and totally off the pace for the entire game ... Couldn't believe it.

Na, Stone was playing with Duchene and then Stastny/Patches. Do you acquire them as well.

The Flames need at the least an elite defensive 1st line centre. Not necessarily a superstar but a Bergeron type at a minimum.

Small talented players have to have match their skill with great courage and mental toughness when it comes to the playoffs.
Kane, Marner, etc have been great examples of this.

Johnny has to learn from his experiences in the playoffs. He is a top paid player on the Flames. He has to mentally “park” all the negative and challenging things and stay focused on the big picture when it comes to competing in the playoffs. IMO, he looks for too many excuses, instead of taking on a leadership role in tough times.

He is still a relatively inexperienced playoff performer and I have great hope that he will learn and grow from this very humbling team and individual experience.

He displayed some courage and stability , as well as tenacity in the game tonight. That has to be a more consistent part of his package.

My hope is that he will learn from this experience. He’s already a regular season game breaker. His challenge is that the playoffs are a whole different level.

With what he has overcome throughout his career, from a size perspective , I suspect he is fully capable of winning this challenge.

I thought it was a series where the Flames struggled to find their game. Even before the playoffs started the goal scoring had dried up with the Flames struggling to score at the pace they were famous for during the season.

The problems were there in the month of March and continued into the playoffs. They lost their mojo and weren't able to find it. TBQH I was worried come playoffs that the Flames might not be able to rediscover their goal scoring.

Lastly, you can throw the regular season standings out the window come playoff time. There is so much parity in the league that we're seeing the top 2 seeds going down in the first round. There's not much separating teams talent wise.

That's weird, I remember him scoring 20 goals on maybe the worst team in the league, working his way up from 3rd line to 1st line centre over the course of the year. That was a whole year without Gaudreau mind you and not a smattering of games.

Stone has different DNA than a number of guys on this team. I think he would make a difference. Enough to see this be a 6 or 7 game series with half the roster dragging their feet.
Again, just because he did it with Vegas doesn't mean he would have did it with the Flames. Vegas at their worst hasn't been as big of a ####show as the Flames were.

Not even Smith playing in god mode was enough to wake the rest of the team up and instead they repaid him by giving up a ridiculous amount of shots.
