Fleury vs any Flames goalie is a mismatch so they're gonna need all hands on board if they wanna pull this one out. I feel like we're gonna need at least 4 or 5 to win this one. Our big guns are way overdue.

Coach Peters confirms Mangiapane will start tonight with Backlund and Lindholm. “I like the pace that he’s played with. Just shake it up a little bit.”
Also says he wants a larger sample size with Tkachuk on the right side of Monahan and Gaudreau. #Flames

I think so too, but I like seeing the coaches sticking to the plan in a situation like this.

I am stoked to see Mangiapane on the second line. Less so to see Tkachuk with Monahan.

It's a little odd they called up Lazar who was playing so well in Stockton, then don't play him.
Shouldn't he be continuing his good play in Stockton at least?

Sure, but does that magically make the sample size big enough to be meaningful? No.

Please win.
Would be nice for Monahan, Gaudreau, tkatchuk to actually show up and have a meaningful impact.

Does he make the same amount of money if he plays in Stockton as he would if he was called up?

Yeah I don't get this at all. Especially in games where it seems they could use some speed / hits.

This thread sounds like the beginning of the ATL we see on a lot of the crappy teams we play. Get a grip folks!

I think it's the reverse of the Mike Smith start that gets everyone upset by reading too much into recent results.
Back to back games.
Smith has owned Arizona
Rittich gets Vegas.

The Flames have given up less high danger chances against five on five in the last five games, than at all but one point in the season.
Defensively they're fine. Not scoring. Iffy goaltending. Odd bounces.

I think the issue is that Lazar mainly slots in the bottom-6 of the line up, and in the past stretch of 5-6 games, the bottom 6 has been doing their job quite well.
It's the top-6 that are not pulling their weight, and Lazar hasn't earned top-6 time yet.

Fair enough but Vegas is arguably the bigger game. Does Smith owning Arizona carry the day, or were there other factors in playing Rittich first?
In any case, I am happy to see a goalie get the start after a sub par game. Because unless Peters goes with a win and you're in philosophy for the playoffs, this is going to have to happen.
Has a team ever gone all the way rotating their goalies in and out? With respect to Flames history, I think they somewhat did that in 1980 with Riggin and Lemelin, making it to the semis. Probably a rather analogous goaltending situation.

Just going off the last game.
Can't prevent odd bounces that's for sure but you can mitigate iffy goaltending.
