The Leafs are top heavy with talented forwards and weak on defence. I could see Nylander traded in the off season for some help on defence.

They'd better win it this year, next year they have 24 million in space with 12 players signed and Mathews, Marner, Kapanen, needing new deals.

Also looking at that group, its great for the regular season, but in the playoffs when heavier hockey comes into play and with that blueline.

I don't know.

A Hall for Larsson kind of deal.

I think this helps start to set the bar with Tkachuk; Nylander outproduced Matt as 20 year olds, but looks like Tkachuk’s 21yo season will be better, and he’s a better goal scorer than Nylander.

I’m gonna call 7.5 x 7 for Tkachuk’s contract.

My worry is what does it mean for Tkachuk? If Nylander is worth $7 million, he’s easily up around $8-9 million.

I doubt a Calgary player could ever be worth more than a Toronto Maple Leaf.

Nylander simply isn't worth 8+ like some suggested.

.
After all the pissing and moaning, Nylander ended up signing for the same money as Pastrnak with a little bit of inflation tacked on.

And with that Tkachuk should he keep up his play and end up with 60-70 (not counting a playoff performance) Should be worth between 7-7.7 depending on if he keeps it up and what not. He has disappeared for a few games absolutely unnoticeable which I will guess he will get 7.1m ( again not counting what could happen in a playoff run)

Nylander had more PPG last year than Tkachuk. So, no, Tkachuk is not worth 2 million more. Maybe $8M for 8 years if his agent hits a home run.

Well, if you ask 31 teams today who’d they rather have for the same money, I think the answer would be overwhelmingly in favour of Tkachuck.

Going into a CBA negotiation, Tkachuk should be looking at a 5 year deal max.

Home runs are hit in free agency.

Signing for 8 years makes zero sense.

I'm confused! What does Nylander's 61 points have to do with Tkachuk? do you think Treliving is going to use Matt's 49 points from last year and try to disregard his current over a PPG season?

Hard to see the Tkachuk camp accepting that. Please disregard our 90 point season BT and negotiate with us as if Matthew is a 60 point player. Even if Tkachuk slows down to his Ppg pace from last year for the rest of the year he ends up at 70 points this season. Pretty sure Tkachuk will be looking for a contract that is no more than 6 years and is at least 8 million a season. It seems like almost every offensive player signs for around 110,000 a point based on the last year before signing these days. The idea that Tkachuk will buck that trend and sign for 85K a point seems optimistic.

This is a terrible negotiation strategy btw. If the other side knows you're not going to sign until the last minute, they're just going to give you a contract they think you'll sign, and it's never going to be as much as they were actually willing to pay, because there's no need to give you the best offer. You'll sign at the last minute, and you'll sign what they give you.

Besides, they'll never give you their actual best possible offer even if they could, because nobody respects a negotiator that's stupid and petty like this.

Nylander got a contract that's in no way particularly great, and Gaudreau got clearly less than he's worth. Both of those contracts could have been done during the summer with much less hubbub.

I hope this agent is gone from the league soon.

Lewis Gross is a horrible agent. This deal should have easily been reached in the summer. I predict Nylander is traded within 2 years

Maybe against Boston on Saturday?

There is no way he's in game shape.
