He's got 270 to go to beat Gretzky. Let's be generous and say he keeps up his current pace and scores ~60 goals this year to bring that total down to around 230. If he plays until...
35 years old (the end of his current contract), he would need to average 115 goals per season over the remaining two seasons. Clearly not happening.
36 years old... 77 goals per season. Again, probably not.
37 years old... 58 goals per season. So basically assuming he is immune to aging or having any kind of poor/injured/lockout-shortened season.
38 years old... 46 goals per season.
39 years old... 39 goals per season.
FORTY YEARS OLD... 33 goals per season.
Is he really going to average 30+ goals per season over the next seven years in even this scenario? The way Ovi plays I just can't see him having a Gordie Howe/Jaromir Jagr type of career that stretches into his 40s. And if he does and he's still scoring between 40 and 60 goals a year doing it then he deserves whatever accolades he's due, because that would be unheard of in the history of the sport.
Possible, but highly unlikely, I'd reckon.

You also realize he has NEVER scored less then 30 goals in a season...... at all..... never. Let that sink in. so its not unfathomable to think he could go:
Age 33: 55G
34: 48G
35: 36G
36: 32G
37: 28G
38: 26G
39: 24G
40: 21G
41: 18G
Done.
That is 270 more Goals. Like I said its a long shot but until he slows down its gonna be fun to watch.

Mike Gartner kept up a 32 goal or more pace until he was almost 38 years old. He retired a year after that with 708 career goals. His final season and the 1995 lockout shortned season were the only times he did not score at least 30 goals in the NHL.
