 So far this season:

 Mike Smith (always terrified)
 David Rittich (rarely terrified)

I go with the two goalie system until Smith's TOS rating comes down a bit.

Happy to see Rittich, but Smith needs a game where he plays really well. He's just not confident now (odd for a vet).

Smith needs to earn back his keep by being a good #2 goalie. He's been too dreadful to not deserve becoming relegated to being the backup.

Either way, he needs to play some. No way to get his game back in practice only.

Right, but swap his and Rittich's roles. Rittich takes the #1 and Smith gets the leftovers until further notice.

Maybe. I think Rittich needs to be eased in, based on last year.

65% Rittich, 35% Smith at least until further notice.

No.

A 50/50 split is already a huge promotion for Rittich. Ease him into more games for the foreseeable future, see how he does, and then re-evaluate. A sudden change like you are suggesting could be disastrous.

If we're going to get anything out of Smith he needs a run of games to get his footing. But admittedly how can the team do this when he looks as broken as he has. That Avs game was awful. I don't know. I think Rittich looking as sharp as he has is a bit of a mirage as Smith has looked so uncomfortable that almost anything resembling NHL goaltending looks amazing.
I don't know. it's an incredible conundrum the Flames have on their hands. I just don't think you can run Rittich with confidence for a stretch, but I also think there's a lack of options for the team right now. kind of stuck gambling on two goalies.

Trelving can make the tough decisions though, and I know they're looking at all options right now. They can't afford not to. FW depth is fine, D depth is fine, goaltending is the #1 thing their focus should be and likely is on.

I just happen to like a 65/35 split better. See how THAT goes. Go with that til mid-December. If that turns out to be disastrous then re-evaluate after that point.

I was thinking today that the Smith / Rittich situation isn’t a long ways off from Holtby / Grubauer situation in WAS last year. #1 fighting it and plans go out window. #2 comes up aces, displaces #1 in regular season.
Who knows how our goalie tale goes?

I don't understand why anyone cares that much if Smith rebounds. Team is likely gonna need a goalie next season regardless of what Smith does. I say they see what they have in Rittich so they know whether they need to trade/sign for a starter in the off seaason. If Smith was good, then it's a different story, but they don't have the luxury of rolling with a 36 year old goalie that is costing them games when their 26 year old backup has put up a .940 so far.

Because you need both anyway, and if Rittich doesn't pan out then you have nothing.

I will say Rittich looks better to me than at any time last year, including his run of good number two starts. Way more confident.

I have a hunch that Bennett and Neal will combine for a couple of goals tonight.

Bob Cole and Peter Maher at the Dome tonight.
 May 25, 1989:
Cole: “There goes the buzzer, and here come the Flames!!!”
Maher: “We’re the winners! We’re the winners! Yeah baby, yeah baby, yeah baby!!!”
