What I find interesting is that no monetary terms are supposed to be discussed during this period before July 1st. Wonder if the NHL will do something to either change the rules or follow through with enforcing the rules.

Sounds like the Flames were offering $5.6 mil over 3 years ($1.86 mil AAV)

Taking a while to get to 5000

Chris Johnson confirms the idea that Vegas could offer the same money with shorter term. Thus the Flames offered approx $1.8M per year for 3 years
Rest easy folks. Tre is sane. For now.

probably signed for the higher AAV but only at 2 years is my guess...you'd think he would have signed for more years if possible?
maybe the Flames offered less money but longer term...
edit... yeah, that makes sense

Just a guess.

Am I missing something? How is this guy worth $2.5 million? Even at the flames price of 1.8 million is one million to high for me. This guy can fight and that's about it

From a Vegas perspective, it likely became about not wanting him to sign with a division rival.
Flames offer 1.8x3, Vegas hears about it and says they'll pay the same but over 2 years.

This is the suggestion on twitter. Vegas matched the money others offered, just in two years rather than three.

if he's as useless as people say he is, i don't know why Vegas would care who he signs with...

He's not useless but they don't want their players getting concussions.

I don't see what the big deal is, they wanted a specialty player and overpaid him but only for two years. And they have all the cap in the world.
Good for Reeves.

Yup, definitely not useless. Played nearly 80 games 3 of the 4 last seasons.

I know a lot of people are starting to sway in favor of hating having a token tough guy, but this was THE token tough guy and IMO he would have made a difference. Not on the score sheet through his own offensive contributions obviously, but more so because the rest of our team would have benefited knowing that he was around to have their backs in case anybody from another team wanted to get chippy.
Maybe a decent analogy would be a group of really good buddies going out to the bar. In that group is toughest SOB around and everyone knows it. Everytime somebody decides to start crap with any of the group, the tough SOB steps up and lays a licking on the wannabe tough guy. So most of the time nobody messes with that group, and the other guys in the group have a good time at the bar knowing A) nobody is going to #### with them and B) the odd time somebody does try, your tough SOB buddy is going to clean house.
|
Or...now hear me out...you can go out to the bar without expecting to get into a fight? I'm not sure how you party, but I certainly don't even consider violence if I go out for a few beers.
I get that Reaves has value on the market, but I wouldn't have paid any more than $1.5 million for him. Glad we didn't sign that deal.
And I'm fully on the Jiri bandwagon of getting head injuries of any kind out of the game as much as possible. Fighting is just one part of that, and I'd be happy to see enforcers out of the game. Policing hits to the head of any kind needs to be much stronger to make a difference, and you aren't going to get concussions out of the sport altogether, but reducing the incidence of concussions as much as possible MUST be a priority in the sport going forward, or you're going to have a lot more long-term effects for these players that could lead to an early death. If you care about the sport at all, you don't want to see it have the problems that the NFL is going to inevitably have in dealing with this issue.

I think Reeves at under 2 mill would have been amazing. I know Tre has some critics out there but I love that he's involved in just about anyone who could help the team. He did his best here, I hope he keeps it up.
