I'd be so depressed if I was an Oiler fan with that man in charge. When things don't work out you can always look to the future with a good GM in place.

Reminds me of my Feaster depression.

You honestly don't think Treliving was disappointed when none of the four Flames he invited to Team Canada in 2016 accepted? Also, you didn't address the fact that Hamilton was not even invited to the World Cup camp.

It's not mandatory. But voluntarily going to overseas to play in a competitive tournament demonstrates a passion for the game.

I guess if you don't buy into the reports from multiple sources that the Flames management is not happy with the compete and passion level of the team, then there's nothing to see here. If you do, then it's perfectly legitimate to ask where the problems.

It seems you are reading too much into it. The only thing that Treliving expressed disappointment in is with the Flames getting off their game-plan too easily and getting rattled. That has been the one and only swipe at Gulutzan since the firing, stating that this team needs more leadership and Peters will help them out there, while Gulutzan left that to the team which was probably too young.

In my opinion, losing Engelland hurt the leadership aspect of this club, and I would look for the Flames to probably address that this off-season. I have heard absolutely zilch about the Flames being 'disappointed' in their core and feeling that they have to make a big change. If anything, there has been more accolades about the room than not. Not sure where you are getting your information from. There is a chasm of difference between "the room stinks and we have to make a change in the core" and "we need additional leadership for this young team".

Maybe some clarity on the Carolina rumors? But probably not.

If he says Hamilton is not going anywhere that means a trade is in the works haha

Likely pre-emptive discussion on how anyone brought in is not here to be a savior.

Better than him ending up in Toronto, San Jose or any other western conference team.

Still, it would be very odd for him to sign now when the courting period is only days away.

I did read an article somewhere though a couple weeks ago where the author believed the only reason he hadn't re-signed yet was because he and his agency were waiting for the league to announce the salary cap for next year so he could get a certain percentage of the cap based on other high end centers that were all with the same agency. Guys like Malkin, Kopitar and Giroux IIRC. Well, they just announced the salary cap so maybe the author was correct.

Sure, he's leaving $4M on the table by signing early, but he's also giving his team $2M in cap space per year to bring in help.
What if he signed a one year "show me" maximum value deal ($16-17M)?
He would still have the potential to be a UFA again next summer.
Gives Lamorello and Trotz one year to convince him that the team is going in the right direction. Why sign now long term if you are not comfortable with the team, give them a chance if you would like to stay, and keep your options open.

Reminds me of my Feaster depression.
For me, the Feaster era was pretty exciting and optimistic. While you might question some of his trades, you have to remember he was saddled with a lot of no trade, high cost, older player contracts. I think Calgary led the league in NTC contracts at one point.
The Feaster era focused on rebuilding; it focused on youth, speed and skill. When was the last time Calgary drafted a perennial all-star before that, when was the last time you were openly optimistic and excited about a prospect before that? Dion is the only prospect I can remember being excited about in the 10 or 15 years before Feaster. Pretty bleak.

Would love to get Panarin if possible. Dude is a serious talent.

Hamilton and Lazar for Panarin and a 2nd? Gives Calgary the 1st liner they need, the ability to move Brodie up to the top pairing, gives a spot on the main roster to Foo, and recuperates a high pick for us.

With Panarin unsigned and Hamilton on a good contract I'd only do Hamilton for Panarin + CLB 1st rd pick

Stamkos did it right.
Why is it foolish if he doesn’t want to leave??

because if he waits until other teams can submit an offer it may raise his contract from the Isles.

Would you trade Hamilton for two late first round picks?

Because that's what the Flames would end up with if Panarin doesn't sign.

Unless he is getting max term and money from the Isles which no one else can do.

You'd obviously obtain permission to negotiate a deal with his agent before the trade is final
