Hopefully Petters isn’t against talking to the players between periods, GG was always too busy playing angry birds on his IPad

All I ask is for Treliving to give some indication as to why he made this choice and maybe what we can expect to see in terms of style of play.

Treliving could learn a lot from what experienced winning coaches like AV and Sutter would have to say about his roster and how they think the team should play even if he doesn't hire them. There are absolutely zero negatives of interviewing experienced coaches that have had success.
|
Do you believe that Treliving has made this hire without any outside consultation? I suppose that is reasonable, but I would be pretty surprised if Treliving did not do precisely as you suggest. Maybe he did not consult with Vignault or Sutter, but I expect that Treliving talked to other coaches and managers about this situation in an effort to make the right decision.
But in the end, I think the timeline of events shows pretty clearly that Treliving was always going to hire Peters. For better or worse he believes that this is the best coach for this team—even ahead of the high profile guys.

We're getting into chicken and egg problem then. If your system can't be made to work with the players you have, then your system isn't that great to begin with.

Systems !! Processes!!
How about accountability by the players ?? Buy in??? Will to win?? Will to learn??
I sure hope Peter Puck can get these guys to listen. Can he and will be make these guys winners or will they revert back to being mentally weak when faced with _______.
I really hope we don't have another coaching charge for awhile. Let's try shipping out guys that don't want to buy in, work hard, be committed next time as the players keep winning the battle only where it matters most.
Behind the scenes we have no idea what's happening in the locker room and we kept hearing the players say it's not a problem in The room.
Well then prove it boys. All eyes should be on the players next year as how could it get worse with Peter's ?
Waiting with baited anticipation.

In that Sun article, JM Lilles said very good things about Peters. He said he is a good coach with good systems and you always knew where you stood with him.
The one part that made me a little nervous is where he spoke about it taking a year to really 'get' the system. He said by the second year, it was working great. So this may take a little while for the players to adjust.

I’m glad GG is gone, but I’m extra happy that it has spelled the end times for dumb iPad schtick posters keep going to.
We get it.

I believe he has basically told us. Treliving has a strong opinion that this is the system a club needs to play be successful. We have heard that from him and presumably AV, Sutter or other choices simply don't preach that system to the extent Peters does.
Treliving likely wanted a harder version of Gulutzan, and presumably also someone who will change up the PP and make some better in game decisions.
Treliving is all in on his belief in the system. If we get all of the above, maybe this works.

The funny thing about that is that every coach that I have seen does the same thing. It is just SN would always cut to him looking at it after a GA.

And no doubt Peters will too. The first time it happens get ready for page after page of over reaction.

For the record that’s my first time poking fun at the IPad, and I still can’t believe we had a coach who didn’t talk to the team in between periods. Was a great strategy.

Most networks cut to the bench after a goal in most situations. Most coaches only look at the iPads when there is an overriding reason to. Gulutzan did it every damn time.

to me this clearly indicates what Flames management was thinking
1) special teams absolutely sucked and killed this team this year. with a half decent power play this team could still be playing hockey right now. goodbye assistants that had special team responsibilities
2) The players took too many nights off this year, came out flat too many times at home, and basically looked like one of the laziest and spoiled teams in the NHL. Goodbye nice guy buddy buddy players coach. Hello Mr take no shyte coach.
so the question is what's next. As much as the players and everyone insists that there weren't problems in the room, just the fact that this team played lackadaisical and there were too many players that took too many nights off tells me that there has to be a problem in the room between players like MT and Gio and the guys that hustled their $$$$$ and the guys that didn't. For all we knew Peter's might go in and the first thing he does is gathers the leaders of this team wearing letters and tells them to turn in their letters.

How complicated are these systems that it takes pro hockey players a full season to grasp?

My favourite was when he'd watch the monitors on the bench at their feet and some posters thought he was hanging his head in defeat.

I don't know for sure if they asked permission to speak to Peters, but I do know as of last Monday, well before he had resigned, that he had 2 offers in hand from Canadian teams. I know media speculated that Calgary asked permission, when they said that though, he already had his offer. They likely got that information correct, just the timeline was late.

Tried to dig into this one a bit by looking at the save percentage of different shot types.
The goalies were just bad in Carolina this year.
Ward
-HDSV%: .783 (41/58)
-MDSV%: .895 (54/58)
-LDSV%: .973(34/58)
Darling
-HDSV%: .748 (56/58)
-MDSV%: .902 (49/58)
-LDSV%: .964 (54/58)
So by pretty much every metric they were bad in net no matter where the shots were coming from and it's not just a "shot quality" argument.
