Bill Peters is the perfect coach to continue the mediocrity of this franchise. Fan base is used to losing anyways so this selection, if it happens, is something that shouldn’t come as a shock.

Maybe he'll be an associate coach under Darryl for a year or two first

I wonder if anyone else was even considered.

I am asking....back in the day we didn't have Facebook or message boards to form or validate opinions. For some what HF thinks is somehow important and I'm almost certain these posters are 35 or younger

I don't get why everyone is so up in arms - the media generally has no idea what BT is doing - it's just a bunch of guessing and connecting the dots right now

Absolutely HUGE gamble by Treliving and management when you consider that elite coaches like Alain Vigneault and Darryl Sutter sit on the sidelines. Even coaches like Ruff, and potentially others who will be cut lose after round 1 might be better fits. I doubt we see a crop of ''free-agent'' coaches all simultaneously available like this for a long time. Huuuuuge gamble by Treliving.
Having said that, I know pretty much nothing about Peters other then he is somewhat of a hard ass when he needs to be. The team needs someone like that, so I'm willing to be on board and trust that BT has selected whom he thinks is best.
But man oh man, AV and DS sitting in the wings looking for work....big gamble.

Ahhhhhh well if true this team will likely continue its run of mediocrity and flounder in the middle of the league. Oh well, I’ll remain hopeful that this is not true until it’s true.

I'll keep an open mind, and will wait and see how it goes. All I want is results, I don't really care who the coach is.
And yes, he is highly respected. And I have no doubt Treliving and his staff have done their homework and have solid reasons for why they have chosen him (if they indeed have).
But I have two concerns.
The first is style of play. When you drop $10k to go out on 41 winter nights to watch hockey, you want to at least be entertained. For the love of God, give us energetic, fast-paced, inspired hockey. I am not saying that Peters won't, I am merely concerned by the similarities between the results from Carolina and the results from Calgary. I can't stand passive defense and I sure hope that he doesn't preach the same passive, back up, sticks in lanes approach. And maybe he doesn't, I'll wait and see.
My other concern is that the last thing I want is another corsi-possession coach. I would rather watch cricket than have a crappy team with good corsi, and supporters repeating every night that the under-lying stats are good. If that's how this is going to play out (and I'm not saying it will), I want no part of it.
Please Treliving, give us a coach and a team that will play uptempo, exciting hockey. Please make Calgary a tough place to play in again.
Please.
And I don't care who that is - if it's Peters, fine. Just make it so.

Let's be honest...the Flames will likely suck no matter who the coach is unless the roster is significantly improved

Sorry but most fans are morons...every team that doesn't win the fans are ripping the coach

I'll mention it sometimes simply as a way to get opinions from other hockey fans. Despite the fact that you need to sort through 20 crap troll posts to find a decent one on their main boards, it's good in their team specific forums to see those other opinions. It's not about "what HF thinks" it's about what people that have watched him a lot think, whereas on CP it's mostly stat watchers forming opinions. Not that either way is superior but what's the harm in getting both sides of the story before forming an opinion?

A number of NHL teams would love to have Bill Peters as their coach.
Prediction: A year from now lots of posters here will be embarrassed (but happily so!!!) by their opinion of Bill Peters today (or, I guess, I will, but unhappily so).

Check out that coaching resume.
Doesn't exactly blow you away.
(And is nothing compared to Vigneault's.)

Woah, woah, woah! He won a championship in the WHL, I’m sure Peters will be the head of a new dynasty in Calgary soon, don’t worry!

And now for real:
I don't know enough about Peters to care that much, but Sutter or AV would have been much more entertaining as a fan. Hope Peters knows what he's getting himself into -- in a year both he and Treliving could be gone if this ends poorly...
