Well it's a good thing most teachers are opposed, because 44% of Americans support teachers packing heat. 44....mother####ing.....percent. If that number doesn't show you how deeply, fundamentally broken America is, there's not much that will. It's so divided as a country right now if Trump came out tomorrow and said eating poo is delicious, 44% of Americans would say they support eating poo.
The fact that it's even that close is why it will easily pass in Congress. What a f***ed up country.
Damn, I have some pretty hardcore conservative friends back in Calgary and in Alberta on Facebook, one of them shared a crisis actor video (eventually deleted it), and now he posted something to the effect of, malls, movie theaters, my workplace has more security than a school, why can't we protect our children...
Wait, he lives in Lloydminister, he's afraid for children in schools in Canada and wants more security in Canada. Am I missing something since I left 8 years ago?
I grew up in Lloyd and went thru grades 3-12 plus a year of college. I also did some substitute teaching there. A lot has changed since I left but, the biggest concern for my safety was the bar ‘Amigos’ and getting into a fist fight. The schools were excellent.
I live in a town of 3500 people. A friend who lives three house down from me posted an article on Facebook about the need for concealed carry in Canada. I have never been scared in this town nor have I had even one incident during 14 years. Wtf am I missing?

Nothing has changed in Canada.
Most hard-core conservatives in Canada are just morons that would cry like the babies that they are if half the changes they wanted were implemented.
Is THIS the shooting that finally initiates change?
When nothing happened after Sandy Hook, I thought Americans were okay with things. Maybe these highschoolers will actually begin the awareness campaign, and in a generation, there might be some meaningful changes.

probably better off buying water and freeze dried rations for when the magnetic pole finally switches.
Yep arm the teachers because only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun. Oh wait there was a good guy with a gun at the school. He froze. Which is what will happen more often than not if faculty are packing.
Columbine also had an armed guard.
An armed guard or teacher MAY limit casualties but it doesn’t stop the shootings.

i don't know if people are simply dumb, or willfully ignorant...
not only those cases that you cited, but there was a mas shooting at Fort Hood! I mean, that's a army base full of well trained soldiers... and there were 13 fatalites. Now granted, the military actually stows individual soldiers' weapons while on the base, but the MPs are there, and i believe all the officers have access to their sidearms...
the reality is that it doesn't matter if you practice on a shooting range. Shooting at a human target is a much different thing, especially when someone is shooting back at you.
this is the reality:
Quote:
A study of 35 active shooter incidents during 2012 found that 37% ended in less than five minutes and 63% in less than 15 minutes, according to Schweit. The average active shooter incident lasts 12 minutes.
the idea of a teacher being able to remove their gun find the target and try to put him down in time before the shooting is over is pretty incredulous... you have trained officers that freeze in those circumstances...

Two things I've learned from this episode:
- Stoneman Douglas High must be a really good school. I'm sure they have their assortment of knuckleheads and C students, but the kids I've seen being interviewed are pretty amazing.
-Conservatives need to learn better then to get into social media fights with teenagers. That's their home turf.

I think a lot of adults underestimate the intelligence of kids. The rate these kids are learning is way beyond people who are past their prime. I've spoken to plenty of teenagers who are much more intelligible than a lot of adults I meet.
