Galchenyuk would be an interesting add. He'd easily be the second most skilled forward on this team and he has size and speed to boot. You watch his highlights and you wonder why he isn't a point per game player, tons of skill and size, reminds me of Alexei Kovalev.
I wouldn't move either Bennett or Jankowski for Hoffman or Pacioretty, but Galchenyuk is one player that i'd be okay with moving either guy for. Unfortunately, I don't think you can get Galchenyuk without trading one of these two.

I have no appetite to move Bennett for any of those guys either. If Montreal wants Bennett they can pony up Gallagher and if Ottawa wants him I would rather add to Bennett to get Stone. Otherwise they can zark off.

Serious question. Are coaches a tradable asset?

I would assume that Pacioretty would hold a bit more trade value than Gallagher, no? Gallagher has scored 20 goals only once, and never broke 50 points. I like a lot of Gallagher's tenacity, but he has only played healthy for 2 seasons (counting an 81 game season) so far. It seems to me like he has already put a lot of mileage, and he isn't some game breaker either.
Neither of those players really interest me, but I would take Pacioretty over him if I am looking at scoring.

Galchenyuk put up 20 goals at Bennett's current age and followed that up with 30 goals and 56 points, and is only 24.
A couple years ago when people called Bennett untouchable it made sense to me with the scouting reports on him and anticipated ceiling, but now after how the last two seasons have unfolded I find it really strange to think that you don't even consider a player like Galchenyuk. Pretty insane homerism to be quite frank.

The prospect of Erik Karlsson on the Tampa Bay Lightning is terrifying.

Bennett is untouchable in the sense that if you trade him now there is way too high of a risk that you look foolish because you won't be getting reasonable value for him. He's been so misused this season and last that he has little to no value.
The flames as an organization think much more highly of him than CP does, why do you think they let him at 21 try to drive his own line? Because they think he's going to be a star. It hasn't quitte worked out but I think the opinion inside the gms office is a lot different than on here

I wouldn't call Bennett untouchable but it would definitely take a kings ransom to get him.

With the acquisition of Brassard, you have to think the Pens don't have the cap room to re-sign Hornqvist this summer and he hits UFA.
Just saying.

Bennett for Galchenyuk would be a solid trade for us.

If Hornqvist makes it to UFA, the Flames should be all over that.

Im taking a big pass on Hornqvist. He's 31 and though yes he has been a steady 40 to mid 50 points guy this is exactly the kind of contract that had us regretting Brouwer almost instantly. I'm signing Evander Kane before Hornqvist at this point.

Uh, why? He's a poor man's Tkachuk on the PP offensively, and we have the actual Tkachuk.

Yeah Hornqvist has Louie Eriksson signing written all over it. No thanks.
Even though I still have no idea what happened to Loui Eriksson.
In the 8 seasons prior to the signing:
GP: 597 G: 192 P: 454 and was coming off a 30 goal, 63 points season.
Since
GP: 113 G: 21 P: 47
He wasn't even playing with Bergeron and Marchand in Boston. He was on Krejci's line.

I believe Brouwer could still work on a team that doesn't have Sean Monahan playing his role sice the day he got here. But by taking him out of his lone niche we've killed his value. I would be pretty petrified if we signed Hornqvist.

Gives us good trade chip if we get a team full of players like Tkachuk.
Tre: "Oh, you want Tkachuk? Sorry, he's not available, but we have the next best thing, JUST FOR YOU!"

So now that Brassard was trade we can roughly gauge what Hoffman is worth.
Brassard @ $4.1M for 2018 1st (will be very late), Gustavsson + Cole (UFA)
*Cole is going to be flipped, most likely for a 2nd-3rd round pick
You have a career 50pt center vs a 55pt winger. Centers are worth more, however Hoffman has an extra year on his contract ($5.1M) which is valuable.
I'm willing to bet that their returns are going to be very similar. Hoffman might return a little less if Ottawa doesn't retain.
Not saying we should or shouldn't trade for him, but Calgary's offer would need to resemble:
Hoffman (no retention) for 2nd,3rd, Kylington

Starts with C, ends with 'oncussions'.
