I was looking at the Canucks roster at possible Brouwer trade targets. I looked at Sutter but Jen has an extra year on his deal. Ganger seemed to line up most for fit and value

I'm a fan of Anders Nilsson, always wanted him to play on the Flames so I for one would be jazzed to see h in Calgary.

I did have a wild thought in my head. What if the Flames landed Tanev as well? Would Nilsson/Tanev for Brodie be a thing?

EDIT: NVM Tanev is out 4 weeks with a broken leg.

Markstrom was injured at superskills comp this weekend. Hence the call up. I think the worry on nilsson should be next to nothing.

Any chance they acquire picks first by trading Gillies (and/or others to provide a better opportunity, like Wotherspoon), then use said picks in a package to bring in the scoring RW?

Since a lack of picks seems to be the biggest hurdle in getting scoring help, that would appear to be the move to be made first.

I don't know how this truly helps us. Yes Brouwer has been brutal but Vanek is almost assuredly worse. I'd rather keep gillies than risk him turning into a stud in van. I honestly don't think there's anything to the rumours though

Vanek still produces at a 60 point pace. (40 in 59gp this season with the Canucks)

Brouwer does not.

Vanek has an expiring contract and could be moved for a draft pick of some sort.

Brouwer has negative value.

Vancouver won't take on Brouwer's contract without getting something pretty good for doing so.

Uhhh, Vanek is a pending free agent. This is just a fan proposal so there's no chance of it happening, but I take that deal and run.

Brouwer's contract is a huge hindrance on this rebuild, I'd easily pay Gillies to get rid of it, personally.

Pierre LeBrun reporting that a few teams have contacted Toronto in regards to Eric Fehr. I could see Calgary picking him up for depth as he would come cheap is UFA at seasons end. He has been healthy this season and can score a bit. Would rather try him on pp instead of putting Brouwer back on it. Is a right handed shot that can play RW and centre good in face off circle too.

I was joking in the office today thst this deadline has a similar feel to that 2011 deadline where we claimed Brett Carson on waivers and trades for a broken down Freddie Modin.

Flames are not a lock to make it and can’t afford to part with assets. In 2011 we needed picks and prospects to start rebuilding and in 2018 we traded all our future assets the previous summer.

I hope the Flames surprise us with a solid move to get the team heading back in the right direction
