Brodie + Bennett = 6.6 million

Karlsson = 6.5 million until 2019-2020 and can probably be signed long term for 9.5 - 10 million (arguably the best d man in the league)

Brouwer and Frolik free up 8.8 million in 2020-2021

It is definitely feasible capwise. And I think its worth the risk in giving up Bennett and Andersson

I think Valimaki is off the table and Fox/Gillies/19 1st would be more than fair value alongside Stone/Bennett/Hathaway.. honestly it looks like too much so its gotta be close to what the ask would be for Karlsson/Hoffman

When everyone is healthy:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Hoffman
Versteeg - Jankowski - Frolik
Brouwer - Stajan - Lazar

Giordano - Karlsson
Brodie - Hamilton
Kulak - Hamonic
I know its my birthday and all, but there's no way Ottawa makes this trade.
Please make it so however, that would a fantastic roster but tough to fit under the cap!

The idea of trading Hamilton is even stupider than the idea that the Flames should have walked away from the Backlund negotiations. Hamilton is the second most important piece on the team behind Gaudreau. My god this place is a gong show.

Jay Feaster and now Treliving have literally spent the last seven years turning the prospect pool into something that can feed the parent club. It used to be abysmal. I seriously doubt that that would decimate the minor and developmental leagues in order to bring in someone even as great as Karlsson.

If we do make a play for a big fish, it's main piece going back would be an NHL player. Even a medium fish like Hoffman, it will be an NHL player going back as the headline.

For this reason I think that Karlsson is out of reach, but Hoffman isn't.

Did the caps and Hawks just make a deal?

Just took a glance at the Hf trade rumor thread and saw something around Marion to the Canucks from Rick Dhaliwal. Personally if those teams are talking trade I am convinced it would be a Lucic-Eriksson swap. Both contracts are bad Lucic has one more year on the deal. Chia has traded for Eriksson once before and he at least has more speed and skill than Lucic. I can see the Canucks liking the size Lucic brings to the table. Possibly mentor Virtanen or be there to protect Petterson? Vancouver is one of the only teams I could see looking at taking on the Lucic deal

Lucic had a chance to play in Vancouver the summer he signed in Edmonton and didn't take it; the money/term was great, and he was probably promised a top-six line next to McDavid.

Lucic is also from Vancouver but he turned that down to play in Edmonton - I am not sure a hometown team is as much of his concern as a playoff-contending team (as ridiculous as that is with the Oilers in context, Vancouver isn't any better).

Lucic has had some run-ins with fans in Vancouver; and his family was harassed during the BOS/VAN playoff run. He might not want to return - does he have an NTC?

He has a FULL NMC until 2021, at that point it turns into a Modified NTC where he submits a list of 8 teams that he CAN be traded to.

For three more years he has full and absolute control unless bought out, and can't even be sent to the AHL.

Yeah Lucic isn't leaving for a bottom feeder team with that kind of control. He'll either be an Oiler for a few more years or bought out IMO.

The better part of this is that all the signing bonuses make a buyout tough even. They don't save very much against the cap if they go for a buyout.

But they get a not so good player off of the roster.

I could see Lucic deciding that Edmonton is a bad fit. They are also a bottom feeding team in a much worse city. Lucic went to Edmonton thinking he was going to ride shotgun on McDavid’s wing for 5 of those 7 years and it hasn’t worked out. I could see this being a possible solution.

Makes more sense to me than the Canucks looking at Maroon

Kempny for a conditional 3rd rounder for 2018...

https://sports.yahoo.com/capitals-ac...l.html?src=rss

Kempny, who, in limited time, led the 'Hawks in +/- this year, was one of the older not established D-men at 27, and is an upcoming UFA. The 'Hawks look to be setting up to sign a better FA D-Man, probably when Anisimov's NMC becomes a limited NTC in July.

Really can't see how any team would think Lucic is any sort of valuable to their team at that cap hit and term. I pray the Oilers are stuck with that boat anchor for the duration.

With the Hawks selling and the Flames short on assets. Any chance the Flames acquire their summer target Patrick Sharp for a 5th-6th round pick?

But what do we do with him now that he isn't the player teams were hoping he'd be in the summer?
