He's really good at taking bone-head penalties.

If he's only worth a second rounder. then I think you hold steady and wait for the reckoning, which is the draft + 4 season, next year. It may still be he puts something together to put a 40 point, gritty checking guy like Bonino or Cogliano. That upside is still more attractive than a 2nd rounder and worth the risk if he busts, which i would define as a player than he is now 30 points, useless in most other aspects of the game.
|
I don't know what he gets you. But I think it is a very different thing if you are moving him for a pick, in which case, you may not get more than a 2nd or a 2nd and 3rd. So in that case - no - not worth it
But trading him for more immediate help, to a team looking to reset the clock on the asset a little more, probably gets you more.
They are two very different scenarios.

Bennett has the high-end ability to make a really nice deke on a defenseman as he comes in to the zone. Then he turns into Matt Lombardi when it comes time to take the actual shot.
The guy just can't seem to finish in this league. Whether that's mental or not, its still a part of who he is, and it doesn't mean it's something one can easily remedy.

This almost guarantees that we won't land him- let's just hope that Eklund's error is in our favour this time and we're actually close to Stone :P

what would you give up for Stone or as a package deal for Stone?
Bennett, Brodie, 2019 first and they take Brouwer for Stone and JGP? or is that just to far out there? Instead of JGP maybe Pyatt or someone else?

I would be very hesitant to trade away our 2019 1st.
Not drafting in the top few rounds for more than a year is a good way to cultivate massive holes in organizational depth.

I think you need to give up the pick as part value for Stone and as compensation for for taking Brouwer. I don't think Bennett and Brodie are enough for Stone but adding a first is too much so the Sens take a contract in Brouwer and maybe throw another contract to the Flames.

As awesome as getting Stone would be, I don’t think it’s in the cards. Senators have no reason to trade him unless they get a big overpayment.

I wasn't suggesting that Brodie and Bennett would be enough. I think we could probably add a top prospect (Fox, Parsons), instead, and just forget about trying to get them to take Brouwer.

Ya, I agree about trading the first but if they wouldn't budge, I would give it for Stone as he'd be perfect on the team and the kind of guy you hope your pick turns into. I would add Fox, and I think you're right about no one wanting Brouwer.

This team def needs an 80s style shakeup trade. They are not winning anything with this lineup.
It doesn't have to be huge. but sending a few supporting guys that need a change of scenery for a similar group coming the other way would be great. Or use the positional strength to get an important piece. The 4th line has to bring more and the 3rd needs to be consistent. BT has to fix that.
The Calgary - Ottawa rumours make a lot of sense.
I guess we'll see what happens next week.

Re: Eklund
Pretty sure half this board called Jagr to the Flames before it happened too.
Blind squirrel, nuts, etc.

I would move the 2019 1st for Stone- he's young enough and extendable to fill the perceived Gap. That would be the last one i'd move though.
If it takes Brodie + Bennett+ 1st I think you have to do it. ~ppg player, young, big, very defensively responsible, great possession numbers, and a RHS. He's exactly what we need.
