The main problem is the Flames have no finishers beyond Monahan.

Ferland is the next closest thing, but he's deficient in most other areas. The Flames need a sniper desperately.

So what now? fire the coach after 17 of 20 points

Like I said, recent play is not why they are in a playoff bubble...they have gained points on every team in the west but one over their last 10 games

You can't seriously be comparing D. Sutter to G. Gulutzan. Sutter was the master of what to say and when, Gully is not in the same coaching universe.

Yup. They hit a lot of legs and bodies tonight that guys who are pure finishers would have buried. We clearly outplayed LA tonight, but like always we just can’t bury enough chances.

I’m usually on here complaining about how boring the games are. I thought tonight wasn’t that bad though despite the low score.

Overall Sutter is a better coach but that’s Not the point.

You said calling out a player in the media was an amateur move...but that is only when Gulutzan does it right...other coaches like Sutter can do it and it’s fine.

Gulutzan says nothing in the media and he’s critiqued for showing no emotion. He says something honest and candid and it’s an amateur move.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that a lot of fans didn’t like the hiring from day one, will never like the hiring, and sadly think that complaining about him win or lose is going to make him magically get fired Even though we have been a really good team over the last 30 games.

I just wish that those same fans would admit they have a bias and blind hatred for everything he does.

couple breaks we would be talking about how the Flames shut LA down and dominated

its a fine line

anyway I'm out, this place is ridiculous

First half of the season was way below par...17 points in 20 games though, hard to be too critical. They allow next to nothing, maybe they do need find another scorer...easier said than done.

Flames had 2 shots on goal well past the midway point of the first period. From an entertainment perspective things got a little better in the second and third.

OT was a yawner. Flames looked slow.

last three games haven't bee good but seriously dude....850 winning percentage. Every team is gonna lose games, you wanted them to run the table?
If we're gonna lose, it's better to lose and get a point. That's for sure. It's just that both these last two losses have been really unneccesary.

I spend most of the LA games following Tkachuk around the ice making the LA Kings froth at the mouth. Probably makes the games better than they normally are for me because I’m distracted.

3. Anyone who says Gaudreau isn't elite or a true superstar is insane. He is among the most exciting players to watch in the game today. Actually I really liked the whole top line tonight.

4. Stop doing the wave. It's stupid.

I thought Backlund was worse last game, he’s not been at all the same this year. Last year he was playing like he had something to prove but this year he seems to be taking nights off. Really hope he shakes out of it.

One thing that I have noticed is that the Flames don't have anyone with a quick release, they have players that can shoot but not quick enough, Johnny, Monny, and Tkachuk had more shots blocked tonight because they tried to get more on their shots instead of getting it on net in a hurry.

The third line has dried up. They don't generate much offense off the cycle like they did with Jagr. I hope they give Mangi a shot after watching a couple games from the press box. Hathaway is perfect for the 4th line while Mangi is better served in the top 9.
Said the exact same thing in the GT, we look exactly like the Wild and I hate everything about that style of play. For long stretches, especially if the top line isn’t clicking, they look far more content to chip the puck in when this team’s strength should be their transition from D to their forwards and making good zone entries with the puck. This team is not built to be a crash and bang team. If Gaudreau isn’t creating the offense we are most likely losing the game, we make fun of the Oilers for being a one man team (rightly so) but our offense has been entirely centered around Johnny this season. I don’t think we are some offensive juggernaut being held back by awful coaching but there is enough talent on this team where 3 straight games of 1 goal a game hockey is unacceptable. They better beat the Oilers tomorrow.

JG was on fire tonight. After that first goal you could see the confidence. Unreal.

But yes, the disturbing trend which allowed SJ, and others multiple more points then they deserved before Christmas...out playing, out classing the other team for 75% or more of the game, but giving up points because the killer instinct is not there

Stellar goaltending. Rock solid defense. 20+ games without giving up 3 goals or something crazy. Seemingly wasted at times because the forwards, while also generally dominating aren't getting pushed that extra gear.

The stick toss did its trick...it pushed the buttons temporarily, and it looks like the break has softened that memory...and yes, its a very fine line, but it should be 4-0 after two, and its a bit fortunate that the Flames didn't lose that in the 3rd.
The lack of a killer instinct and the coach demanding that 10% extra from his forwards to put the nail in the coffin has them walking too fine a line, where one unlucky bounce or missed assignment has the team losing the game they should and were breezing through...and all that hard work by the players, and preparation from the coaches, and play by JG and Smith is out the window....that was the story of December and its surfacing now again in the scorelines.

Can you imagine JG on a team free of the GG system? He would lead all scoring categories.

I'm fascinated by the posters who continually defend their superhero Glen Gulutzan (even though he has showed NOTHING in the NHL) but bash Dave Cameron for the PP.

Remind me, please, who's the HEAD COACH? Whose job is it to overlook the work of all the assistants? At the end of the day, as the head coach, he's responsible for the work of his assistants.
If he went to Treliving and said that it's not working out with Cameron, it's bye-bye Dave. Treliving invested too much into this roster for it to be dragged down by an incompetent assistant who is ruining the PP. That says to me that GG hasn't done it. Either he's too loyal or he's just a blind d*******. It doesn't matter, it still makes him a bad coach.

Also, I love the excuses.

Lose against the Jets? It's ok, Jets are a great team, we just had the 5 day break.
Lose against the second worst team in the NHL? It's ok, it happens.
Lose against a direct playoff rival? It's ok, we still got a point, points in last 10.

The way people are OK with losing is actually amazing. If the Flames lose against EDM (and by the way how they have spanked us since GG took over, it's highly likely), I'm really curious what the excuse will be.
