Criminal Code 174 explicitly bans public nudity and nudity on private areas so as to be seen by the public. It's been challenged, but not changed.

It's one of the few (if only) law that requires consent of the Attorney General to proceed though.

Id bet theres a higher likelihood of encountering a pedo in the changeroom at southland on any given evening than there would be at this event. Id also bet that theres a higher likelihood of a child getting molested by their swim coach than by a pedo at this event. Check the stats on sexual abuse in youth sports and swimming in particular. Finally Id also bet that depending on the families religion, a child may be more likely to get molested at church than at this event.

It's...ambiguous. But topless has been upheld as almost equality issues. A man was charged with being nude (not sexual) and it was upheld in 2012. Pretty much bottoms off in a place you would not expect to see bottoms off, and you risk being charged.

Then you do have like the naked bike rides that throw a wrench into the issue but count somewhat in the same vain as performance art.

Well no I mean the reason for banning photography in this particular public place is to prevent nude photos from showing up and potentially harming people. So it seems kind of ironic to admit there is a reasonable expectation of privacy because of a social norms regarding nudity, yet we expect kids who in other legal matters can not give consent, to consent by proxy. It just doesn't seem like the best idea.

The shame of nudity has to be taught to children, it does not naturally occur. Really young children seem to adapt to it pretty easily, but it's a hell of a thing to drop on an 8 year old.

We need to think of the children first. If they can be perved on while clothed outside, we can not let them outside. And, statistically, they are most likely to be abused at home. So they can't stay there either.

Send them away into the forest alone is the only logical solution. Or we could have all the adults leave town like the South Park episode.

Having kids there is asking for trouble...I am almost certain this is either cancelled (hope not) or made an 18+ event

It also doesn't help that this groups own facebook page uses some pretty sexulized images to advertise their events and then gives a lecture about nudity and sexuality. (I would post one but CP would ban me)

But what about the literal hundreds of other events just like this that will go on as planned without issue?

Children become self-conscious about their genitalia at around 5 or 6 without any prompting from adults. Again, this is pretty much a human universal, not some Victorian prudery inflicted on us by an uptight society.

If people want to push past our natural modesty and social norms to sunbathe or hang around other naked people, then all the power to them. They're not hurting anybody. I just don't think that's something children are capable of giving consent to, so these kinds of events should be 18+.

As an aside, it's kinda funny how some folks here who like to express their disgust at old dudes walking around a change room with their dicks hanging out for 20 seconds are championing the cause of public nudity and calling out anyone who expresses concerns about the event as a prude.

I didn't sign the petition, I am fine with the event, I am fine with nudist groups...call it a private event all you want they sold tickets to the public with no screening or any checks/balances.

I would assume it would be to separate sexuality and nudity. I know two nudists, both of whom have tickets, and both of whom have expressed the value of body positivity and the value of contextualising the naked body.

The bigger question is: how can people live their lives so afraid of the human body? How much shame and fear are you people carrying? That must be horrible.
