Thats one too many unless they send Jankowki down simply because of waiver status. Which would be an atrocity IMO with how he has outplayed any of those remaining players by a fair margin.

Yeah, I didn't include Glass though. Which seems a bit risky since he is indeed still with the team.

Its very interesting. They sign Glass then we would need to see a trade. I wondered about buyouts, but not sure if thats an option or what the rule is regarding that.

Thinking more about it.. wouldn't it be a ###### move by the Flames to trade a veteran this close to the season? Does ir happen often?

Can't see how Hathaway is not better than Burmistrov / Archibald and Dorsett on the Canucks.... definitely no problem keeping him on the NHL roster.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hathaway is picked up. Easy guy to put on your 4th line and not hurt you. Saying that, if he is picked up by waivers, Flames fans shouldn't overreact because he is a 4th liner.

Disappointing. Was hoping to see Hathaway cement that grinding 4th line winger role. But I guess with signing Jagr it bumps Brouwer down to that same role.
Hopefully Hathaway sneaks through but I could see him being picked up.

Are we sure that Glass will be getting a contract from the Flames? There is still another day before they need to make a decision about him, no? I just can't see how there is any room for him on this team.

Kinda of sets their value.
They could only be moved with retained salary presumably. Or for a return contract.

No, that's not really how it works.
For starters they have NTC's so Vegas couldn't pick them to trade them. But for many other reasons your logic falls apart

But it shows that Vegas basically punted their pick rather than take on their contracts.
At the start of the year, when rosters and cap spaces are generally filled, moving those guys now is even harder.

No it doesn't. Just because you believe Engelland was a punt doesn't mean it was. Defense is more important and valuable than forward. Engelland was one of the few defensemen available who brings a nice combination of toughness and leadership. Plenty of reasons why Engelland was more valuable to Vegas. And really that doesn't mean anything about Stajan or Brouwer's league wide value.

Good question, and one that I would put to those players who came into camp this year competing for that spot.
"Hey guys, all you have to do is be better than Tanner Glass. We're not setting the bar very high this year."
And yet, they were all worse than him. That's on those players who were given the chance to show something.

Engelland was a UFA. They could have signed him without picking him.
Everyone knew he was going to Vegas anyway.
It was a punt pure and simple.
Now I agree that values can change over time.
But I doubt anyone wants to take a full value Brouwers and Stajans. Money will need to be retained or salary returned.
