No kidding. A guy who can skate, move the puck and despite starting in the Dzone 55% of the time, still has positive Fenwick and Corsi numbers.

To me, it's not that he's (Tanev's) a bad player, but I think he's only played seventy games one time. Even going back to his junior days, it appears that he's never been durable.

Much rather have the Flames re-sign Stone and give some kids a chance.

I think the Flames blueline is in trouble if the sign Stone to be the number 4 unless a kid steps up and takes the spot from him
Ideally the blueline looks like:
Gio-Hamilton
Brodie-#4
Kulak/prospect-Stone
Try and sign Stone for around 3 years $3M per to replace Engellend. If Stone wants more let him walk and circle back to Engellend. Either look for a trade for a second pair guy or sign someone like Alzner.
If the Flames can keep Stone but add a number 4 they are in very good shape on the back end next season

You could be right. I guess I rate the Flames' top four a little higher with Stone than you do. Your comment's fair though.
I'm really hoping for some of defensemen for the Heat ( Kylington, Andersson, Kulak, etc.) to take a step forward during what is hopefully a good playoff run.

You should either keep Stone as your number 4 or not sign him at all, because paying a bottom pairing guy 3m is a huge mistake.

This.
stone + keeping first >>>> trading for Tanev
And Canucks would want kings ransom for Tanev

Thoughts on trading Sam Bennett for Noah Hanifin? Carolina is in the enviable position of having a lot of young blueliners and were rumored to be willing to trade him for someone like William Nylander. A year ago Bennett had more value than Nylander, but maybe not now? Would the Flames have to add? Hanifin also had a slightly down year I believe, but I didn't follow Carolina in the slightest this year, so I'm not sure about that.

Do we need Hanifin more than Bennett? We've got a good top 3, and I wouldn't trade Bennett for a #4.

I don't think Carolina offers Hanifin 1-1 in that scenario.

$3mil is steep for bottom pairing. Time to see Rasmus in the NHL and use the 1st round pick on Callen Foote (RHD) or Kristian Vesalainen or Kole Lind or Kailer Yamamoto. Maybe Matthew Strome is available.

i want to keep Bennett and ultimately team him with Tkachuk to be one of the most difficult pairs to play against. They both have high skill levels and play with a physical edge. Ferland or Lazar could be a long term RW on that line.

You could say the same for any community, online or otherwise. There is trash everywhere, you just have to be smart enough to realize who is worth listening to.

Very interesting deal. I think both are on the verge of breaking out. Canes fans are falling out of favor with Hanifin with the emergence of Pesce and Slavin, just like Flames fans are souring on Bennett due to Tkachuk's breakout. I think Bennett is more important to the Flames' future, but this is one of the very few Bennett trades that wouldn't make me upset.
Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamilton
Kylington/Kulak/?-Stone

I'd be ecstatic if we could get Hanifin for Bennett, but I don't see why the Canes would do that personally when they could probably get a more established C with just as high of an upside for Hanifin.

It's easier to get d-men than it is to get centres.
Trading Bennett would be stupid.

If Hanafin is available you know the greasers are going to be all over that.
Probably try to package Ryan Nothing-Happens, eat some salary and send some draft picks.

Team would improve this team immensely. He is one of the best pure defensive dmen in the league. He is leaps and bounds ahead of Stone. However his injury history is a huge red flag.
If I'm trading our first I'm calling Philly. They have a slough of young dmen and mite just let Gudas go for the right offer. If we could bring in Gudas as our number 4 that would be wicked.
