According to TVA Julien's contract with the Habs is long term and is for more $ than the Bruins were paying him.

I believe Julien was at 2.5 million with Boston.
There are some contemporaries at 3, but Vigneault's new contract is for between 4 and 4.5.
I would wager that especially with income tax in Quebec that Julien's contract is at least 3.5 but probably in that 4 range.
Which means the Canadiens are spending 6 million or more next year on head coaches.

So teams who spend at or near the cap will replace a coach with a clearly better option when a team is not performing to expectations? Neat....

Good for the Habs making a bold move that should pay off.
You snooze you lose, Brad. Was never much hope but clearly some teams are unafraid to make midseason changes. Meanwhile we're stuck with this loser.
Sorry for the harshness but I'm sick of how listless the team is ever since this coaching hire and even more sick of the Flames passing up opportunities on and off the ice. This process can kiss my rear end. All our young players are stalling/regressed.
Hockey never used to make me so angry.
I think the Flames' management is stealing some of the circus spotlight from the Oilers lately.

For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about being stuck with Gulutzan, I will laugh when the team goes on another winning streak and everyone shuts up about him.
Seriously, it's getting comical. Win 4 of 5 on the road mostly against playoff teams, some of them being top teams in the league. No comments about Gulutzan.
Come back home and lay an egg after a 5 day layoff as almost every other team has done this year following their bye week. Gulutzan is a loser, the worst coach ever, and the Flames are stupid to not fire him after that game.

Maybe we should wait to see how the Habs do with Julien behind the bench before we declare this a good move?

"the process" strikes again.
This season is almost a gift with how bad the western conference has been. Shame it's being pretty much wasted with an underperforming coach.

No kidding...not to mention it's apples and oranges and it's highly unlikely he would take a job in Calgary.
French coach...is he gonna go to Montreal with Price signed long term or Calgary with no goaltender signed.
Shut up about guts and use your brains

There are many posters on here who feel GG is a bad coach and shouldn't be the the Flames head coach.
Of course people are gonna whine louder when times are bad, but don't mistake that for people thinking he's some sort of coaching genius when we win a few games.
There has also been a lot of very valid complaints about his tactics, lineup choices, ice time choices and a many other elements that go beyond just reacting to wins or losses.
If you think people are just complaining because of one bad loss, you sir are the comical one.

The continued insistence on playing Brodie on the left side and saddling him with the boat anchor known as Wideman is imo enough to replace GG, let alone all the other problems.

Nah, it's the same pattern all year ever since the bad start. Nobody wants to give him credit when things are going well, but every single thing is his fault when things aren't good. Everything he does is put under a microscope because he didn't come in with a long resume, so people assume he's not doing a good enough job. Fans have focused on the minutiae of his work and can't see the forest for the trees.
Read Bingo's most recent stat breakdown of the team to see what's really going on with the Flames this year. Overall, they're a much better team. Unfortunately, like most young teams, they're extremely inconsistent. Goaltending has also not been very good this year outside of a hot stretch by Johnson. Any team with below average goaltending is going to struggle with consistency.
Make no mistake, Gulutzan is the team's whipping boy this year, and by that I mean he's shouldering far too much of the blame for a team that isn't perfect and still has a good shot at the playoffs.

I'm not an expert on NHL coaching like (apparently) a lot of other posters, but the reaction to this is kind of strange.
Why would the Bruins let the Habs get Julien? Well, they just fired him and to me that's a bit of a giveaway that they don't think he's the greatest coach going.
