The players panicked and got away from the teams system. It's a problem that has repeated itself many times this season. Stick to system and be patient. It was still 1-0 when things started to fall apart.

The zone entries of this team are disconcertingly poor and predictable. It's either a horrible soft dump-in which goes nowhere offensively because nobody is fast enough to get to the puck before the defender (which is troubling in and of itself), or it's a poorly-executed 'carry the puck through three defenders' escapade which usually results in an errant pass or a turnover with an odd-man rush going the other way.

Kris Versteeg was the only good Flame tonight.

Where we disagree is where the motivation should come from. The players knew the importance of this game and where they were in the standings. That should be enough to motivate an athlete to play 60 minutes.

I come to CP now for two reasons:

To purchase tickets from good people.

And to watch the overreaction pour in over a loss. The boys played a great first period and lost their legs after a stupid "mandated" break. Already looking forward to Wednesday.

I'm pretty sure Bob Hartley's Flames would get up for games a bit more consistently than this, and even on their off nights they certainly wouldn't give up the way these guys do after the first two goals go the wrong way (seems to be about when they phone it in, given that they never come back from multi goal deficits).

Someone's got to be the guy to stand up and rally the team. Who better than the guy who's support to manage and mentor this young team along? Sometimes Gio should be the one to take the reigns but I don't think it should come down to him every night.

It's not the lack of winning that's particularly alarming about this year's version of the Flames, even against lower teams. it's the distinct throwing in of the towel before time has expired that should never happen with guys who are getting compensated that handsomely to play a game.

I hope to hell tonight was more rust than anything and that whatever it was it's not present on wednesday.

Maybe getting so much of the latter over the last two years suggest that it might not be an overreaction?

WTF's with the 5 day layoff without any team practices during that period? Man, it shows the rust. It's like having a team that's in full throttle vs a team that's going into training camp. Cripes this CBA rule sucks! Isn't the Allstar week enough?

1) Hamilton over Russell
2) Tkachuk over Byron
3) Brouwer over Raymond
4) Kris Versteeg over Colborne
5) Frolik over Jones
6) Bennett over Jooris
7) Jokipakka over Smid

Even though they lost Hudler, Ramo, Hiller, and Schlemko, I think all in all they have a better team on paper right now, playing in a weaker West.

I don't think Trelivings roster decisions since then has had as much of an impact as coaching.

Hudler was one of the top players in the league that season and so the way you have it, he is replaced by no one. 8th in the league in scoring. An anomaly for him and a big reason for that team's success. BT did an adequate job replacing Hudler with Frolik but he won't replicate Hudlers play for that single season.

Russell was also playing pretty well and Wideman was not the disaster he has become.

With 26 games left every point is extremely valuable. Now is not the time to be losing to teams you should be beating. We may look back at this game and say those lost points was the difference in not making the playoffs.

I dunno man... the NJ game at home and losing all 4 games to the Oilers is gonna be my scapegoat for sure. Even though this game tonight was IMO the very worst one of all this whole season. Definitely the NJ and the Oilers games for me.

Hudler was always hudler. The guys is one of the slowest skaters in the league. What more could he do then, over now, or even over his years past? IMO, Gaudreau and Monahan were different then, and that's what affected Hudler moreso than what Hudler changed. This season JG and Mony look that much less creative and interested, regardless who their winger is.

I choose to look at Hartley's tenure on the whole.

That includes 13/14 when even though the team had no business competing in the standings it sure as hell competed on the ice.

And last year was definitely much, much more on goaltending than it was on limp #### half game efforts and work ethic (aka this season), aside from the putrid start. They had a top 10 offence and guys like Gaudreau and Brodie looked like different players entirely.

Russell was also playing pretty well and Wideman was not the disaster he has become.

Also IMO when you give away a player like Byron, who gave his all for minimum pay, and was a spark plug for the team, you remove a little bit of it's soul.

Teams are now 3-9-1 coming off the bye week. Probably a lot of ugly hockey there. I'm glad they are talking about ditching it. Only good thing that came out of that is wideman dropped to the third pairing.

This game was just another dose of what this season has been. Bitterness and an unexciting waste of time.
Honestly just want season over with.
And you if think I am alone make up the time and money go to a game. See it for yourself.
The crowd is rarely into the home games anymore. Not even close to what the vibe was last year and that wasn't a good season but the games were exciting and they were worth going to. Win or lose they were usually worth the time to see.
