Yeh, i'm really thinking GG isn't a very good coach. how is it possible to have almost every player on your team playing so poorly?

Tre could have avoided all this and just got Boudreau. He was the best guy and fit.

No your right I should taint a 3 time Stanely cup champions name by mixing it with Gulutzan.
That would be disparaging to Gilbert.

Honest question. Did GG (Mark I) ever spot the opposition four (4) leads of 4-0 in consecutive games like GG (Mark II)?
Rare air.

If they are rebuilding anyway, what's wrong with that? A couple seasons of high octane offensive hockey gets you better trades.
You can't keep asking for patience with this system if they are this bad. No system sucks this bad.
The Flames were one second away from being shut out for a second straight game. They were only shut out three times last season.

No idea. I'll let you do that work to answer the question.
In terms of coaching style I don't understand the comparisons.

I can't say I remember GG1's coaching style.
GG2 reminds me of the Dallas Eakins era in Edmonton though.
The players appear to have quit on GG. From GG's comments last night it sounds like he is throwing up his hands and doesn't know what to do. This is where BT earns his paycheque, and perhaps a new contract if he can fix this.
Playoffs are still well within reach.
I predict Huska is brought up as interim.

Come on, GG is bad but he is not Gilbert bad. Gilbert had absolutely no system and cost us the #1 C we needed for Iginla by forcing Button to move him just because he didn't personally like the guy. Even if GG gets axed he will find a job at some level coaching, everything Gilbert has done in coaching has turned to crap.

They share the same initials (GG) therefore they are the same.

anyone know ted Nolan's current status? is he available or in a complicated relationship?
I wonder if Hartley is laughing a little bit more each day.

Everybody said Brent Sutter would get a new NHL gig right away too.

Nolan? Has he done anything since taking buffalo to the SCF almost 20 years ago? He'd probably be a downgrade on GG.
We need a real coach. Someone who's had recent success. If Julien isn't available or too expensive, hopefully Darryl wants to come home.

I wouldn't replace G.G. YET, and I'd leave Huska where he is so two teams wouldn't be looking for a coach.
But, if it at year's end, it appears that the team won't respond to Gulutzman, then I'd look at a guy with a strong pedigree like Julien or Hitchcock.
It would be nice to have a young coach become successful here, and increase my faith in Treliving, and not have to hire a retread coach regardless of their past success.

Why? Was anyone actually thinking "I hope the Flames hire Gulutzan!" when the coaching vacancy came up?
Why wouldn't you want a proven coach who knows what it takes to take a team from mediocrity to elite? Coaching is a very specific skill, I don't see the sense in the Flames being a training ground for inexperienced guys.
When we sign UFA I think we expect a certain degree of capability, not sure why that's any different when hiring a coach. I'm completely baffled why the Flames took this approach.

I just can't shake the feeling that GG is a total stats guy who has the team playing a mindless, stat friendly system. It would certainly explain why it's so boring to watch, and his total reluctance to change ANYTHING while he sits and waits for the stats to even out. He said it himself; he doesn't talk to the players immediately after a loss. Why? Is he preparing their report cards or something? I don't get it.
Gio and Brodie were one of the best tandems in the NHL, and he broke them up why? Because he favours R/L defense pairs apparently. Or because statistically speaking they perform better? Again, it makes no sense.
Call me crazy but I would rather have a guy with zero emotion crunching numbers on a calculator as an assistant than the guy leading the charge on the ice. Stats have their place, but IMO that place isn't as head coach. This isn't Moneyball.

It's frustrates me to all hell that he stares down at the monitor more than looking engaged in what is happening on the ice. This isn't the vegas sportsbook. Get your head in the game GG. You have guys watching the plays from above who can inform you if you need to challenge. Chump.

If they wanted coach who has an EFFECTIVE nurturing, pyschological approach with the players, they really should have tried to land Ralph Kruger. This guy knows how to build winners, and the stupidest thing Edmonton did was can him.
Would be absolutely elated if we could get Ralph as our next HC or someone with his skillset.

A few things really set me off last night.
1) How easy he is on the officials. I understand you can't go Playfair on them but show some emotion. The Brodie can opener which should have been a 5 on 3 at 2-0 just slid under the mat and then the Tkachuk high stick was more of a I am going to show I am fired up and then when the officials come to me I back down as if they are my buddies.
2) When JG spent minutes with his head down cussing and obviously frustrated I did not see any talk from GG towards JG. A big difference between an amateur coach and elite is knowing when to press a players buttons and back off. I see a complete black and white X and O style from GG that is not tailored to spark individuals.
3) The call out in the media with 0 lack of accountability for himself. News flash... it wasn't one bad game. They have put a number of them together and can't score. This is just as much on the coach as it is the players.
