Umm if the Flames lose the next two they would pretty much drop to 26th in the league with some players having there worst career years.

Goaltending is a big factor too.

I firmly believe that Hartley would have us much higher in the standings with today's squad.

Also if we are going to suck, atleast suck and be fun to watch. This Gulutzan hockey is so boring. I use to watch every game with under Hartley because they were always exciting. This ####ty brand we are being fed now catches about 50% of my attention. Even when I'm watching the game I'm not really watching.

This team was not built to play a low gritty cycle game we don't have the personel. What we do have is skill and speed, USE IT!

The value of a mid-season coaching change is to reduce the odds of killing another season in October for the "every new coach sucks the first month" crowd. Though even if it doesn't save this season, replacing the coach might at least put an end to the ridiculous experiments of playing Brodie and Chiasson out of position.

In the big picture do we really want to save this season? It's painfully obvious the organization still has glaring holes and free agency hasn't been working out well when you consider that got us Wideman, Bollig, Brouwer, etc. A few more weeks of the current play and they will probably be in a position to draft top five. I know it's not a popular sentiment but I really don't see what's to gain by chasing the 8th spot so you can get embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs? It's been a pretty ugly season but if we can get another Matthew Tkachuk type prospect it at least there's a bit of redemption.

I'm totally fine finishing the season with Gulutzan and if he delivers us a high draft pick it's probably not the worst thing that can happen for this organization in the big picture.

I think a lot of people want the coaching change in order to prepare for next season. I also believe this team has a roster that is better than a wildcard bubble team, but that's my thought and isn't widely agreed on. Let's say figuratively this teams players were all playing to their norms... We would probably be 3rd in the pacific easily. The neutered offence is killing us.

This draft Tkachik probably goes 2-3 so we won't be getting a player of his caliber unless we draft top 3 IMO. Not to say I don't want anther high pick, I think we need it.

What about Gulutzan ruining our players tho. He's literally regressing 70% of the roster. That can't be good for the long term development of our young team can it ?

I like to think I'm an optimist. Sometimes. I still want to see this team make the playoffs even with the likelihood that they get bounced in the first round.

Right now I see that if the playoffs started today they'd play the Wild. I think thats worth chasing.

Get bounced in the first? Probably. But they'd still end up with a pick in the middle of the pack that could be traded for something that can help them immediately and fits the age group/need for the team.

Trying for optimism.

Staying on topic. The coach is asking his players to play outside their skill set/comfort zone and its showing. No confidence. Forcing the play or trying to get blood from a stone.

I wouldn't fire GG unless you had a top tier coach who had already agreed to terms before the firing. No more interim guys or interminable search for the right fit.

And if we win the next two, we're still right in the playoff race. I'll admit the last few games have been awful to watch and the effort has been poor; but kneejerk reactions to some bad play are not in the best interests of teams. The season is a long 82 games, and very very few teams go through those 82 games without at least a couple of bad stretches.

I think you play this season out, and if the effort doesn't improve and we're on a downward trajectory, that's when you have the ammunition to make some coaching changes.

No. There is no point in trying to "save" this season.

The star players have for the most part had brutal seasons and the goaltending yet again is sub-par. Part of it may be on the coach, but I can't see half the team magically turning things around with a coaching change.

Even if they squeak into the playoffs this team isn't going anywhere. I'd rather just have a high pick even if this is a mediocre draft.

We are 25th in the NHL by points percentage. This is a team that has been bad more than it has been good. Despite playing in the incredibly mediocre Western Conference.

As I stated in the ''shakeup" thread IMO the answer is to fire Dave Cameron. He's expendable.
I believe there are "too many cooks" so it would help to bring more singularity to the message or at least to reduce the people in Gulutzan's ear on how to do things.
Besides special teams have been bad all year and someone should be held accountable.
Personally I was never a fan of His hiring, said to me "Well, we really like this guy(Gulutzan) but we're not really sure he's ready so we'll bring this guy in(Cameron) to help him out."
Some "training wheels" if you will. Just muddy's the message over time in my opinion.
Besides, Gelinas can come back onto the bench and bring his positivity closer to the team regularly.

What is worse though, continuing under the leadership of a failing coach who will be replaced ASAP or playing under an interim guy while you look for a permanent solution?

Dave Cameron would be the interim coach so hell no! If a guy like Julien is available and commits to coming here thats when you pull the trigger. Otherwise wait till the off-season.

If you like Gulutzan or don't like Gulutzan as a HC. Just ask yourself 2 simple Question what has he done that has had positive results on the players and the outcome of a game and what has he done that has had negative results on the players and the outcome of a game.

What I see is a group as whole that have little confidence, play lack luster with little passion are not enjoying the season and most have had a huge negative drop in even their personal stats. And if you believe that none of that is on Gulutzen.
Well have fun being frustrated and disappointed in this downward spiral. Because it's not fun especially when Treliving can start to fix it with a pink slip to his hire but strongly doubt he will.
So let's just sit back be frustrated and watch Gulutzan continue to create a 2 car accident in a 3 car parade.

^Neither of those questions are simple and don't have simple answers unless you are already determined to blame everything on the coach.
Then yes. It is simple.

It is simple. The decision to not hire Gilbert 2.0 would have been simple. There was already dozens of reasons big bold staring Treliving in the face kind of simple why you don't RC speed track a guy of his very limited and dare I say it unsuccessful NHL experience to be a Head Coach. An assistant coach maybe but a HC no bloody way was that a smart hire.
