That's where you would have heard evidence found following the initial search and subsequently in the investigation.

The trial started this morning.
Meghan Grant @CBCMeg
"This trial is about a petty grudge that Douglas #Garland held against Alvin Liknes -- a grudge that lasted for years"
Crown: Three victims were "violently removed from their beds, taken to the #Garland farm and killed." Their bodies burned in a burn barrel.
CROWN: Grudge was "all about a patent" for a pump that #Garland did some work on. It never really made any money, never made anyone famous
CROWN: #Garland kept track of Alvin Liknes through internet searches. Learned they were moving. Decided to act on grudge
CROWN: Police found blood spattered on walls and in thick pool on the carpets. "They were gone and all that was left was blood." #garland
CROWN: Evidence is found "all over the property". DNA from missing family on a saw, meat hooks. In burn barrel: bones and a tiny tooth
CROWN: #Garland was "obsessive researcher" on ways to kill, weapons to kill with, autopsy tools. Research found on hard drive in his home.
CROWN: Mapping plane flew over property on July 1/2 photos show 3 bodies. Alvin & Kathy facedown. Small figure in grass curled up.

Crown said 3 deaths are all b/c of a pump patent, a pump that made no money, a pump #garland helped on and that "didn't make anyone famous"

I read that the bodies were never found, but it looks like the mapping plane actually did find them? Or would that have been an image before the bodies were disposed of?
Brutal. Takes a special kind of loser to pull off something like this. What a POS. All over a stupid pump.

This is just awful. Hearing about the little boy curled up in the grass with his grandparents face down beside him absolutely breaks my heart. How can someome be so evil?

Damn horrible to read, but at least we know the evidence is very strong against him.
I wonder if when they say the child was curled up if that means he was alive at the time of the mapping plane flying over head.

I assume since the article said they found body parts on hooks, the bodies are gone now and the photos were before he dismembered them

Wow. That's tough to read, but as already mentioned, I am relieved to hear that there seems to be a lot of evidence against him, and I hope that it is proven fully.
As much as I find the details absolutely sickening, I am always intrigued by the investigative process and how the police are able to put together a case. A mapping plane? Just amazing.

As grisly as the details are, I'm somewhat relieved they are being told. For the longest time, investigators said no bodies were found and were pretty tight lipped about what evidence they found (as they should be). Made me think that with no bodies, this POS might somehow get away with it.
At least with these horrible details now known, it seems like a pretty solid case against him.

This is probably mentioned in this thread already, but there's a really good RadioLab podcast about a company in the states that can fly a plane with a camera array taking 1 picture every second all day. Essentially it gives law enforcement the ability to rewind the events of an entire city in real time. I first heard it around the time of this crime and thought about how valuable it could have been to catching the guilty party.
The fact that the case will likely be made by a similar (yet unrelated) type of technology is interesting.
