I'd like to see Versteeg back on the top line for another kick at that can. Everyone was clutching their sticks a bit too tight last time they lined up together and they all seem to be lossening up a bit. I think with his hockey sense Versteeg could be a good fit there.

Would also like to see Tkachuk given more time back with Bennett and Brower, and Chassion on a lower line.

I don't mind Chaisson, but how much better would it look with a bonafide top line player there?
im starting to think Hudler would have been a cheap option.

Then we wouldn't have Versteeg.

Frustrating when you're up against the cap.

Anyone wish we were paying Joe Colborne 2.5 million to lose the puck and play too soft for his size?

Nah. Me neither.....

The fact you are saying Kulak has played well but is only replaced by Wideman goes to prove my point. He should be getting into more games but because of our depth he continues to be the odd man out and his development is suffering as a result.
I don't see how the Flames have any more depth than other teams in the league. Every team is faced with losing players they really like, that's why the expansion rules are what they are.

So Burke didn't anticipate any FA's coming available, or any of his young players emerging, so he threw extra money and term at Matt Stajan. Why? To be nice?

He didn't think the rebuild would be over so soon. I don't think anyone did... Who the hell expects a 4th round draft pick to become an immediate top-10 NHL scorer? Who the hell expects a 22 year old top pairing defenseman to become available for nothing but draft picks?

Stajan is a great leader and support piece. They obviously wanted him around for this rebuild which is why he got term. And wouldn't you know it, we've been developing some great players with him on the team.

Honestly it's pretty petty for you to have such exception to this contract. Borderline pathetic.

Seriously? Try having a discussion or debate without resorting to insults.

I happen to not believe Bouma/Stajan are 2nd/3rd line players on other teams. Not other NHL teams at least. Not sure that makes me pathetic or petty.

Over soon? If we're keeping track this is year 4 of the rebuild anyway, which is around that time when a rebuild shouldn't really be a rebuild anymore.

Let's not pretend this team is some embarrassment of riches and some super fast and unordinary successful rebuild. We hit on some picks and have some new talent. It's not better than anyone else really.

In the 3ish years since that signing I haven't seen an argument on CP that wasn't homerism defending that Stajan signing.

If you're keeping track then you should see that Calgary is a cap team. We've signed veterans to fill weak spots and have goaltending that is supposed to win us games.

We wouldn't be a cap team right now if we didn't hit home runs with late round picks. That isn't the norm for other teams in the league.

The Flames are a deep team and have a deep AHL team as well. Not sure what else you are expecting from a completed rebuild?

All this we did having a season where we made the 2nd round of the playoffs and ended up with no high draft picks.

If you think 4 years is an average to long rebuild, maybe you should read this article:
