As the last decade has shown us, that mentality leads to nowhere. But I don't think it's just the Flames who do that. Every team in the NHL does that.

What, really??? I remember fans and media talking about the next series, I certainly don't recall the players themselves saying anything. That would be pretty anti-hockey player to do so, and definitely seems odd with Darryl Sutter here.

Well it probably will be reviewed if it hasn't already by head office as they review all games but as you fully know it can't be changed. I'm of the opinion that you don't apologize for the calls that go your way because over the course of an 82 game season there will be several that won't go your way and it usually balances out. I don't care if Craig Button or other media members are saying the Sabres got shafted because the Flames got the 2 points and nothing can change that.

I don't disagree -but 2 minutes for cross checking on Monahan and 2 minutes for diving on Reinhart, perhaps? Reinhart did look like he went down like a wounded animal...
Oh well it doesn't matter now anyways...

That line is what your last two posts were missing.
The fact that happened in full view of all the officials that could have made the call (but didn't) suggests you're incorrect.
As I said already, going down that easy to try and draw calls is the brand of hockey Vancouver was using a few years back that almost single handedly ruined the game. I think the play continued for good reason. It was a weak attempt to draw a call from Reinhart, and the officials made the correct (non) call imo.

There was an article in the Sun one day and it was a huge article about the BOA meeting in the playoffs for the first time in x years. I don't remember who, but there was a quote from a player, not necessarily proclaiming they were going to win, but just saying that it would be cool for that to happen.
Then when the Ducks won the series, Selanne was interviewed and I remember he said the team thought that article was so disrespectful that they used it as motivation to win game 7 on the road.

Sabres did a pretty solid job on taking away ice from our forwards, Johnny always seemed to have no time/space to do anything. I don't remember Johnny ever struggling like this, his end to end rushes are nice but usually he's superb at finding his teammates, him and Mony seem to be struggling with chemistry right now, hopefully that OT goal changes that.
I know our possession numbers are good but we're not generating quality chances, most our shots are from outside. Always been my main gripe with Corsi/Fenwick is that they assume all shots are the same, not true. We may be out-attempting teams but man we have very few shots from the slot, very few dangerous shots.
Our D has played quite well the last two games, not just the D players but even the forwards are buying in and it's limited chances for the other team. However we are still making careless turnovers (Brodie and Gio both guilty of a few) and even though our shots against are low we're still having the occasional breakdown and giving up quality chances. I'm not worried tho, the D is improving every game.
Worried about our offense though, I don't care if we continue to win the possession numbers, if we don't start generating quality chances, we won't win many games. Corsi logic dictates the more shots you fire at the net the more likely you are to succeed, which is somewhat true given that so many goals are tips or rebounds that are just a result of firing away. However I still think you need to be able to generate quality in the slot chances, our forwards need to be better. Looked decent against edmonton but the last two games we've been flat.
Anyways so many things we can improve on from last night and we still got the win, just really hope we can figure out the offense, if so, we could be deadly!

Flames scored enough goals to win in 3 of the 4 games. Problem is that it's hard to win when you allow 6 or 7.

The Good:
- Flames won!
- Gaudreau does he thing in OT
- Chad Johnson was positionally sound in net again
- Ferland and Tkachuk were awesome
The Bad:
- defensively, they suck: too soft, giving opposition too much space and time to set up, running around in their own zone
- giveaways
- not sure if they're passing the puck too hard, but everyone's had a hard time controlling the passes.
- stupid penalties that could've been avoided (especially in the second period)
- no win in regulation time yet
The Ugly:
- the PP is just dang pathetic!

I think they're trying to move the puck too fast 5v5. They're not up to speed on the system enough to execute it quickly.
The power play is the opposite. The drop pass to the trailer is either too slow or the trailing player is so far behind, the Sabres have plenty of time to adjust and shut them down.

BIG TIME. He looks, sees Monahan coming in and turns his back. Chicken #### play and he deserved the non-call.

Also ugly: yet another sub 0.900 game for a Flames goalie (one below 0.700). That is 3 of 4 below 0.900.

It was a decent sell job by Reinhart that a different referee might've fallen for, however we were absolutely owed some calls after getting righteously boned in the first Edmonton game. This should quiet down the tinfoil hat people about an officiating bias against the Flames. If there was a legit bias, that would have been called 100%.

Must've been from when he tore his bicep since he's in a suit instead of a jersey.

IIRC it was the night the Flames eliminated the Canucks in the playoffs 2 years ago.

I see what you mean. "Easy breezy beautiful Cover Gio" or something similar comes to mind for some reason.
