So happy about this. A rookie stole a spot from a vet! Adios Widedog. I'll miss his scoring touch from years past but otherwise... Good luck with the refs in the A, hope none are friends with Don Henderson.

Bennett is the only player I'm concerned about right now. Even Crosby, McDavid can't just deke 5 guys out of their jockstraps and score a goal every shift. He's still playing like a junior

Definitely wasn't the Flames, but still, congrats guys.

edit: and Sam Bennett's 4 goal night was the game before those two hahahahahaha
Well the Jersey loss was probably a "ah, the game sucks. Might as well have some sex" night for a lot of us.

So much this. He kept trying that last year and is doing it again this year. He needs to use his team mates better.

Thought both Engelland and Kulak did a great job of stepping into the scrums after the whistle, in particular after the Tkatchuk hit.

That's the thing about being a dedicated sports fan.

If you didn't feel so low after a team loss, you wouldn't feel so high after a team win. I wish I could just enjoy the wins and shrug off the loses, but when you get invested in a team you end up going through the highs and lows with them.

This forum is the embodiment of that. The mood here is always going to reflect the mood of the team.

The talking heads are unbearable this morning.. especially Craig Button.. they're calling the Monahan hit dirty.. like many on this board..

Let me break it down for you..

Reinhart coming into the corner sees Monahan coming in as well.

They both stop completely when they get to the corner and Reinhart turns to the boards to protect the puck. The ref is looking right at the two with perfect line of sight.

Monahan, clearly out of options, puts his stick across Reinhardt lower back and pushes him over.

Monahans motion was not a quick crisp extension like a traditional cross check, it was a push towards the boards.

The position of Monahans stick on Reinhart's lower back would push someone forward, not down. Reinhart embellished the downward motion and lunges himself into the boards in attempt to draw a penalty as he had no where to go.

That's how I see it anyway.

Great non-call and great play by both Monu and JG.

If it was Monahan cross checked from behind we would be complaining too.

I get the mood should follow but the histrionics of fire/trade everyone these guys have to heart based on whether one puck bounces in or out of the net is ridiculous.

The flames controlled the game against Buffalo. The GT for the first two periods was terrible.

My goodness, Monahan's rustled far more jimmies than Tkachuk did last night. Didn't think that'd be possible.

Great pairing. They're killing it so far.
Kelly Hrudey called Backlund the best 3rd line centre in the league last night!

Lest we forget...

I was pretty upset when Monahan got cross checked in the neck/face the whistle before and nothing was called.

Between that non-call and Larsson and Foligno barking at the ref's earlier in the game I'd say the Sabres made their own bed.

Also, after that terrible McDavid PS call the Flames had some ref love coming their way.

That Monahan hit happens 10 times a game while players scrum for the puck in the corners.

Usually the player receiving the hit doesn't crumble like a house of cards though.

Reinhart better hit the gym more and eat his wheaties.

I agree. Honestly I rarely go to GT threads anymore because everyone is so quick to throw in the towel and start dumping on the team as soon as they see an opportunity. It's as if 2 different games are being played. We had 2x the scoring chances last game but half the posters want to continue pushing the doom and gloom agenda because the Flames were down a goal. I also don't visit losing PGT threads until the next morning when people have cooled off and start making reasonable posts.

I really didn't think the Flames would pull off this win, but am happy I was proved wrong. Hopefully the team got the confidence they needed and the winning continues.

Still some things that need to be improved though, mainly the powerplay (0-6) and defensive zone coverage.

Just watched the end of the BUF feed of the game via NHL.tv. Brad May was asked right after the OT if it was a penalty or not. He said "No, not a chance. Not a penalty at all."

And that is an answer from BUF "homer". In my opinion it was just a little push to the back /happens 100 times in every game from maybe all the players on the ice/.

This. Kinda pathetic by Reinhart. He got his rewards by watching the Flames put it in the net.

What a relief to finally see a win.

Goal tending is still making me nervous though.
