Dougie Hamilton had a slow start last year that cost us the playoffs... it was so obvious last year it was painful to watch.
This year, Dougie is often on the first PP unit, over 20 minutes a game and is 0 goals, 0 assists, -2, and is often on the ice when there are break aways again'st us.
Winnipeg likes big defensemen, Trouba is more physical and wants to be a top 4 pairing, that would not be a problem here.

Give your head a shake, Hamilton did not cause the flames to miss the playoffs last year. Did you not watch the dumpster fire in the crease?
Dougie Hamilton had a slow start last year that cost us the playoffs...
... no, it didn't. There was a plethora of reasons for not making the playoffs. Putting the blame solely on a young defenseman who had just come to a new team in a new conference is absolutely ridiculous.
-Hamilton is already ahead of Trouba in terms of development, and Trouba took a step back last year
-Hamilton is already signed to a contract with reasonable numbers. It sounds like Trouba's ask is pretty large, especially if he stays in Canada
-Speaking of asks, it sounds like the Chevy and the Jets are trying to make a point about this trade and are asking for the stars and the moon.
-Even if it was a straight up trade, it's at best a lateral one. We lose a top 3-4 defenseman now to gain - maybe - a top 3-4 defenseman
-Dougie wants to be here, I don't think Trouba does
Don't get me wrong, I like Trouba and I think he is going to rebound into a gritty #3 guy with skillful upside. I just don't understand how trading away a big skillful defenseman, who is starting to show signs that he recognizes his size and strength, for that makes the Flames better now and in the future.

Trouba is supremely underrated. He'd exactly what we need on this team. He uses his body way more than hamilton and can skate faster too. Lays out some bone crushing hits and is light years better defensively. If we can trade straight across and sign him to the same deal i wouldnt think twice about making that deal. They were also using trouba on the pp in winnipeg as well. As a side note; i am a flames fan. And i want the best for the calgary flames. This isnt bashing hamilton. Hes a decent player. I just believe trouba for hamilton would make our team better.

This post confuses me.

iirc the only reason Trouba wants to leave is because he hasnt had a chance to play on the right side and he is right handed. I believe they offered him first pairing minutes but on the left alongside Byfuglien. They will want a LHD as TheoFleury mentioned above.
The Lindholm deal doesnt make sense either. Lindholm is better than Trouba right now imo. Also the problem Anaheim has is signing Hamphus so getting Trouba wouldnt solve their problem. They need to someow move a contract or 2. Fowler, Bieksa etc.
I wouldnt give up Hamilton for Trouba. I've been a big fan of Trouba since watching him on Gaudreau's WJC team. Hamilton is better right now but I think they have similar ceilings. I dont see the benefit of making a trade like that for us + WPG needs a LHD.

Yes, I did. If you don't see a Justin Schultz in Dougie Hamilton, then I guess we're just on a different page here.
Normally good defensemen help the goalie in and around the crease area. Block shots... Russel is getting good reviews up in Edmonton, basically anchoring the defense up there.

So if Hamilton is so bad, why would Winnipeg even want him?

Yes, Dougie Hamilton was clearly the reason we missed playoffs. It couldn't possibly have been the league worst goaltending combined with terrible special teams.

Clearly the answer then is to trade Hamilton for Russell.

Good reviews by *idiots (aka Spector, Jason Gregor, Jim Matheson, David Staples, the most uninformed and homerific group of media hacks ever assembled)
To expand, Russell has been himself. He's been carried by McDavid whenever he's on the ice and gets hemmed in whenever McDavid is not on the ice (applies to the whole team but Russell is the most exaggerated example)

TJ Brodie is over 24 mins a night, has 0 goals, 1 assist is -4 and has 6 less shots and 4 less hits. Oh and is handling the puck like a grenade right now. Lets run him out of town too!
