I'm not ready to call Yakupov a 1st overall bust until I see how he does on a new team. The Oilers have a way of taking good prospects and stunting them.

Having a high pick doesn't matter. It could be a 1st rounder or a 4th rounder and they'd screw it up all the same.

The Hall for Larsson trade isn't a great trade value wise.
Now Yak for a conditional third and a prospect that is so far from the NHL that he's already practicing his "I was a NHL prospect, at his local beer league game"
The only thing he's done well is draft first overall and pick McMenis, which frankly I could have done for a 1/4 of the salary.
Make no mistake, this team looks to be worse then last year especially offensively.
|
No, now he can say he was traded for a first overall pick, more cachet.

Sure, but why give them a chance to ruin a player that has a good shot at an NHL career? The Oilers having a 2nd round pick instead of a 3rd round pick would just take away another possible NHLer from the rest of the league, and that's basically a crime against humanity.

So far first round picks don't improve them either.

that whole draft with Stefan is strange though, wasnt one of the Sedin's the highest rated prospects? (I remember Brendl more than Stefan too) but because of Burke's manuevering they dropped to 2nd/3rd

Yep, considering Nugent Hopkins looked like a stud at the World Cup while looking pretty mediocre as an Oiler I would like to see him on a team other than that sad sack of losers up North. Not holding my breath as he hasn't been close to good enough but I think he will play much better as a Blue.

I wonder if St Louis would flip Yak to us?
I'd love to try him on the wing on our top line.

Once the tenderness gets playing his Xbox again, the shoulders will be toast. He probably looked good in the World Cup because nhl17 wasn't released yet. The tenderness likely plays GM mode a lot to see what kinds of fantasy trades he can whip up involving himself and goes to sleep warmly dreaming of waking up in that new reality.

Nope, pretty sure that honor goes to Atlanta and Patrik Stefan.

Yakupov needs line mates to help him succeed. He's not a player that makes others better. He did great on McDavid's wing and disappeared at all other times. He can be a legitimate NHL player, but I don't think he's ever getting to superstar status.
