Gulutzan also said he has no magic number in mind for how many games he'd like to see Tkachuk play. Ultimately it's Treliving's call.

Also a good point. Without knowing what they're spending at this point, keep options open.

If this is true, that line is going to be pretty fun to watch.

Good to hear, one of the few players playing hard to try to make the team.

One of the few players available who can actually be called a top 6 winger based on his skill/game. Frolik - Brouwer - Tkachuk - Gaudreau. The rest are bottom 6 or AHL. As good as he's been - we have terrible depth on the wings and he basically found himself in the Monahan situation where Monahan was our 2nd best center in his rookie season after Backlund. Tkachuk is our 2nd best LW straight out of the draft.
Not sure if thats more sad or impressive.

One thing about Gulutzan's comments today re: Tkachuk. He was extremely measured and adamant that pre-season is NOT regular season.
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
"Benny, Brouwer, and Tkachuk, if that’s how we start (the regular season) you’re not getting the 3rd and 4th pairing."
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
“You’re getting Keith and Seabrook. Doughty and Muzzin. And that’s a different ballgame.”

That's the best part. If those guys draw the top D pairing that leaves someone else to cover the first line. And vice versa.
Having another line that can contribute more offensively is going to be huge for this team. Especially if Backlund and Frolik also continue where they left off

A worry wort would read that to mean the Flames are expecting that line to draw the number 1 pairing of the opposition because Gaudreau won't be signed and in the line up.

Not too surprised he's getting a look, but I would be (hopefully pleasantly) surprised to see him past the 9 game tryout. I still think he has some holes to fix in his game before he's truly NHL ready.

I agree with the last sentence, but I also think he has a better chance of fixing those holes in the NHL. He's too good for jr's imo

Brouwer was a great signing by the Flames. The kids need a leader and mentor of his ilk.
Great start by Matt.
