Ignore what is going on or try to fool myself. I think there is a chance this team gets into the wildcard game and anything can happen there.
They aren't winning a series though.
Wow! I didn't think anyone could be so negitive!

There's negative and there's reality. This year the Jays need to get 3-4 home runs to win a game. That just isn't happening against the pitching staffs in Cleveland, Texas, or Boston in a 5 game series.

I think they could beat Baltimore in a series, but they are more than likely a wildcard game opponent.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but the Jays haven't showed anything in the past 1.5 months to suggest otherwise.

Pessimists always think their POV is "reality".
It isn't. It is one possible reality - we don't know how things will play out.
For me it is a choice.
I choose to be an optimist.

What about the time before the slump? What were your thoughts on the Jays then?

I think it's pretty well documented what my thoughts are. I've been saying all year that they are in a serious trouble against good pitching because of their inability to score runs without the long ball.

This isn't some new problem that popped up in September. The problem now is that the problem still persists and the pitching has came back down to earth. That said, I didn't think it would ever go this sideways. Just too much talent on the roster for this.

I may be worse then you, i did post awhile back that they were mediocre and wouldn't make the playoffs.

I never imagined that we'd be in a place to potentially not grab the wildcard.

Are the Jays bad against "good" pitching, though?

Serious question. How do the jays do against the best pitchers on these teams?

I'm a pessimist and I don't think my POV is necessarily reality. It just makes it harder to be disappointed when you never expected much in the first place!

Honestly I didn't expect them to even be where they are now this season, but after the turn around I thought they really were going to make it. This slide is pretty disappointing.

We usually suck in Anaheim and Seattle . Time to go 5-2 on this road trip and turn this around !

I said that a long time ago this season as well. It's looking inevitable at this point.

How is it looking inevitable?
Yes, the team is on a bad run.. but even if the team plays mediocre they still have a shot at playoffs. Ever consider the possibility that they play allot better the rest of the way? This team is NOT as bad as they are currently playing. Saying it's inevitable they miss playoffs is being far too pessimistic.

Yikes! I wonder if the Jays have known about this for a while.

Detroit currently losing 4-0 to the Twins in the 6th inning. That would be a huge loss for them if the Jays can win tonight.

With Estrada's health, the situation with Sanchez and Happ coming back to Earth, I'm not sure there's much hope left. There isn't a team around that would succeed with issues like that. Doesn't help that Lirano and Dickey are in the mix and Stroman has been bad all year.

Even if the offense gets going and the bullpen gets it figured out, I think the collapse of the starting pitching is too much to take.

^^Liriano's last start was fantastic, so was Happ's.

They are the only reasons we have those 2 wins in this 2-7 stretch.

The offense is the issue right now, plain and simple.

They've been very inconsistent for a while now, but if they can't put up a good start once in awhile, they are worse than replacement players. I wasn't calling them that. I just have no confidence with any of the starters at the moment outside of Sanchez. Even he looks out of sorts now, probably because he's not starting every 5 days.

Agreed on the offense though. I'm just more worried about the pitching even if they get into the WC. Doesn't seem like a good enough group at the moment.
