Wait a minute.... If Thole is released and re- signed, is he even eligible for the play off roster? How does this work for playoffs for a back up catcher? Or if someone claims him? So Boston claims him just so Toronto enters the playoffs with a rookie back up catcher? I'd do it if I was Boston or any AL gm in the playbo of picture.

Why would Toronto end up with a rookie back up catcher in the playoffs?
They just traded for Dioner.

Navarro can play in the post-season, so they wouldn't have to only have a rookie catcher.
The reason the Sox would claim Thole, I guess, is because they have their own knuckler and allegedly Thole can catch a knuckler.
I say allegedly because I've never actually seen it myself.
I hope the Sox claim Thole and he become the black hole of suck in the lineup, even for those rare starts. Destroy them from within. Too bad we still don't have Anthony Gose because we could send that goof to them too.

Thole would never sniff the playoffs with Jays anyways. Last season, Dickey was on the post season roster, made 2 starts, and Martin caught both of them.

Thanks Guys. I thought I read somewhere that Navarro couldn't play in the playoffs do to when he was acquired. Glad that/ I was wrong, so long Thole.

There is actually two trade deadlines in baseball, and yet, no real trade deadline.
July 31 is the final day you can trade for a player without them having to pass through waivers.
August 31 is the final day you can trade for a player without them being ineligible for the post-season.
In other news, the Royals are just piling on the Red Sox. 13 batter/8 run inning, and KC is up 10-4 late.
Jays looking good to end the night two up, and given how close we were to a 2-4 home stand, it's turned out to be a remarkable weekend!

The Toronto Blue Jays adjusted their catcher situation on Monday, designating Josh Thole for assignment once Dioner Navarro reported to the club.
Thole, 29, is out of options and could return to the Blue Jays when rosters expand later in the week if he clears waivers.

That strike to get Estrada back into the Wieters at bat was all Russell Martin.
The 77 mph change up he threw to the next guy to get the swing and miss was disgusting.

Some 9th inning insurance would be nice, Smoak.
Edit: nice, he didn't K and drove in one.

Solid win. Nice job by Benoit to close it out, he looked good.
And yet another visiting park with a ton of Jays fans representing. Great to see!

Crazy what a turn the bullpen has taken with the additions of Grilli and Benoit. Imagine if Cecil could be half as good as he was last summer. That would be a deadly lights out bullpen.
Nice to see a great start from Estrada too. His last three were pretty bad.
