Classic Songs

[I wanna be like Miikka]

Ok, I got a question for all you guys out there, I tried searching in case this was brought up before but I just got all these Flames into threads.

I am wondering what classic songs you guys could recommend. You know the ones like Sweet Caroline, Come on Eileen, For the longest time etc. I know a few of them but I always hear them out and about in different places and a lot of the time I don't know them because they weren't all hits during my time (Since I am only 22)

Any recommendations would be great, if this has been brought up before then just post the link to the thread and delete this shortly after. Thanks!

And again, being longer in the tooth, I have "classics" as my mainstay. Have a Yahoo radio station that you can listen to... it will show you who the band is, song, album etc. Slight warning, my station has a lot of humour clips too, which are uncensored! If you hear George Carlin come up and you are at work... better put the headphones on!

Yeah I've got 4 or 5 of those. Its a great series....lots of really rare stuff that you can't easily find anywhere else. A lot of stuff that was bigger in Europe, but didn't hit it over here.

I guess I should have known that you would have some of them. When I get around to unpacking my CD collection again, I wlll let you know which ones I have (got 10 or so if memory serves.)

By the way...for Miikka... check out Red Rider. Canadian band. "Lunatic Fringe" is a great song....

As for the original topic, one great classic song I love is 'Tiny Dancer' by Elton John. Back in the day, he had some great tunes (before he started doing stuff for "The Lion King").

Great scene in the movie "Almost Famous" when they sing it on the bus....great stuff.

I prefer "Daniel" I think its by far his best, but he has a ton of good songs... some others (take note I have been on a huge Temptations kick in fact they are prolly my favorite group of all time now)

'Daniel' is OK, but I think 'Tiny Dancer' blows it out of the water. I love songs that are catchy and that you'll see people belt out.

As a starting point I would recommend getting some back issues of music magazines such as Rolling Stone, Q and Mojo. Over the last number of years they have had issues where they list their all time top 100 songs. In the case of Rolling Stone I believe they listed 500 songs. Also, you may want to get a subscription to one of the Satelite Radio Services (Sirius or XM). They have a lot of stations that amongst other things play classic rock from different eras and their receivers tell you what songs are currently playing. And finally, you may want to go to the Rhino Records website. They have an exceptually large amount of classic rock collections and their sound quality is as good as it gets. Hope that helps.
