For those of you who are unaware - You know how Don Cherry demands that the Leafs draft essentially nothing but good ol' Toronto boys, bashes anyone who isn't, and has a decent portion of Leafs fans worshipping everything he says? Well, imagine that every member of the Toronto media was like that, and you'll have the Montreal French-language media in a nutshell. P.K. neither looks like nor talks like them, so now that the team is struggling, it's no surprise that they're turning on him. They're probably getting a lot of it fed to them by their buddies in management, many of whom used to work alongside them in the media, and will likely return there once they're fired.
I've seen this play out too many times before - the media turns on a star player, the fans start to do so as well, and before long, he's traded away for peanuts. If the boo-birds aren't out for Subban at the Bell Centre tomorrow night, I'll be surprised.

Smart management.

Not smart at all. So what if they trade him before his NMC kicks in? They are losing out on a franchise defenceman. Those guys don't grow on trees. They signed him to that deal to make a commitment to him to be the backbone of their back end for years to come. Now because the team is struggling, suddenly it's good management to trade that away? There's a lot more at play then simply getting rid of a contract before a NTC kicks in. You're losing out on an elite defender. With Markov getting older and Subban gone, they suddenly lose their top pairing down the road. Not good.
The Habs issues lie much deeper then Subban. Maybe losing the best goalie in the world in Price is the #1 factor? Maybe Therrien is the issue.
This rumour is a bunch of BS.

The fact that I agree with you shows you just how bad Darryl Sutter lost his mind in 2010.

It was a tongue in cheek post. none of these proposals are serious, you get that right.

There have been rumors of a split between PK and the coaching staff, and the results for that team haven't been there.
If the Habs are finally realizing that their team starts and ends with Price, then they might be looking at triggering a rebuild around Price and PK is the best option to bring in young talent.
A guy like PK isn't going to be cheap, especially for a team like the Oilers that have to be desperate for a player like this.
I would expect that the Habs would want a kings ranson.
They would be asking for Drai-Klefbom and a non protected first for this year. That's where it starts and ends.
The Habs would probably have to take a salary dump from the Oilers as the Oilers wouldn't be able to afford PK under the cap.

PK has a BIG personality, I would think that wouldn't be going over well in a room where your losing a lot, ie the habs!

If I'm the Oilers I offer up Nurse, this years unprotected 1st, and Yak (reunite with Galchenyuk maybe kickstarts something for both of them). I'm not opposed to moving Hall or Eberle in this deal (to make the money work) but that probably changes it slightly. Allowing for his flaws, Subban is exactly what Edmonton needs and they have to be all over this if there's even a shred of truth to this rumour.

And Montreal laughs you out of the building IMO.
Yak has zero value.
So would you trade Subban for Nurse and a pick that has ~50% chance at top three at this point?

So Matt Stajan, Jiri Hudler, Brandon Bollig, Kris Russell should get it done then.
Sadly, that still looks better than what the Flames got for Phaneuf. At least Hudler and Russell could get flipped for 2nd rounders. Hagman and White were worthless.

Also indicated a willingness to discuss Hall or Eberle. Don't be too selective in your quote.....

If Flames trade for PK, does Calgary get the Subban atrium from the Montreal children's hospital as well?

Then propose something with those guys...
What does "Willingness to discuss" really add to the trade proposal.
Edmonton better be willing to discuss every player not named McDavid. They are the worst team in the NHL.

The entire team has split from the coaching staff, Cap.

That would be a tremendously awful trade, actually. Value wise, Montreal would probably consider it. But it does nothing for us.
The improvement we would see by replacing Hamilton with Subban is far too small to justify giving up additional assets and increasing our cap hit by over $3 million - money we will need to pay for Bennett and mid-pair defencemen that we do need.

I agree the cap increase is ugly. It's a bit short-sighted and I also didn't realize Subban is turning 27 soon, I could have sworn he was closer to 25. , However I disagree about the improvement we would see by replacing Hamilton with Subban being small.
Subban is a bonafide #1, one of about ten guys in the league who can carry his pairing with any scrub. He's really damn good. We'll be fortunate if Hamilton is ever about 80% as good as him. His ability to legitimately carry a pairing is something even Gio can't do for us, and I'm a huge Gio fan. Having Subban and Brodie on separate pairings gives us 45-50 minutes a game of a constant onslaught, and pairing them together would just be amazing to watch.
But yeah, with his cap hit and age, I change my mind.

If he got traded to Edmonton I could see him just hanging up his skates and walking away from his contract. Which would be hilarious.
