Nope. Not a fan. Saw some skill but didn't see a guy that would play in traffic. Reminded me of Baertschi in a way. Seemed to play scared at times and much smaller than he is. I'd rather not waste a pick on that type of player. We already have some small high end skill in the system, so focus more on guys with size or incredible jam. That's why Bellows made my top 10. Love the kid's ability to finish, but like the edge he plays with even more. I would not be disappointed if we came away from this draft with player like that. Seems to be like Bennett but more of a shooter.

There is a bit of hyperbole there, but I do agree with Steve Yzerman. Ron Francis as well, but I suppose neither are that "modern".

I am not sure if there is a question there, but a direct comparison to Gretzky is fair exaggeration as to his talents and place in history. "Before Gretzky", there was Lafleur, Dionne, Esposito, , Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull and lots of others. Trottier was an excellent player, an easy hall of famer, but I wouldn't say historic player.

He is in the top 20 of all time IMO. In that same tier as Sakic and Yzerman.

I have no problem with that. I was responding to this:

At the time, the league was at crossroads as far as superstars go. Trottier was a big name but the way the original poster put it was a bit over the top. Guys like Perreault, Bossy, Dionne and Lafleur (who was getting older, and pretty much done as super star by 1981) were the big names. Trottier was pretty notable back then and would stand out more if not for Gretzky IMO. Maybe that's what he was getting at? He had over 1000 points in his first 10 seasons, all while being arguably the best 2 way center in the league.

Yeah, Trottier's comparison might be a more offensively productive Toews, with the demeanour of... actually, that's tough to come up with. Are there any star players today who are genuinely nasty? Maybe Corey Perry?

Yzerman said Trottier was his favorite player, so the comparison seems on. But it's more like Yzerman turned into Trottier, not that he was similar from the start. Yzerman strated out as a pure offensive phenom.
The "before Gretzky" statement seems over the top, but he actually held a lot of "fastest/youngest to reach X points" records that were only broken by Gretzky and/or Bossy (the latter with a lot of help from Trottier).

That's why I said Forsberg. Forsberg had a pretty nasty mean streak and was TOUGH to play against.
