The biggest proof of what will happen is to look at the reactions of the on ice officials.

Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Wideman on possible hearing: "I’d be surprised but if it happens all I can do is tell my side and tell what happened and hope for the best."
Eric Francis @EricFrancis
More Wideman: "In my view it was obviously unintentional.”

I've only seen the one angle but it looks like he puts his arms up and pushes him. I can understand putting your arms up but it's the follow through that has me questioning the play a bit.

I feel for him, seems like a good guy. But the play he made just wasn't an intelligent thing to do.

There are a lot of non-hockey players on here.
Bracing yourself for contact is second nature. I have both flattened and been flattened by my own team mates before because you suddenly end up on a collision course. You can't get out of the way so the player who realizes a hit is coming first smokes the other guy.
0 games. Wideman played again because he wasn't concussed. I believe you can be groggy for 30 seconds without having a concussion. Take a shot to the nose or chin...you tear up and get dizzy even though your brain is fine.
As usual, over reaction and bias rue the day on CP. Sheesh. ...

That rule doesn't apply unless a game misconduct is handed out at the time. Apparently he can get suspended 10 games at the most, and only if it's determined that it was intentional.

Oh.
Is this true? Let me look it up. If so, I apologize for being irrational.

The rulebook states:
Quote:
40.1 Game Misconduct - Any player who deliberately applies physical
force in any manner against an official, in any manner attempts to
injure an official, physically demeans, or deliberately applies physical
force to an official solely for the purpose of getting free of such an
official during or immediately following an altercation shall receive a
game misconduct penalty. In addition, the following (40.2, 40.3, 40.4)
disciplinary penalties shall apply.
40.2 Automatic Suspension – Category I - Any player who deliberately
strikes an official and causes injury or who deliberately applies
physical force in any manner against an official with intent to injure, or
who in any manner attempts to injure an official shall be automatically
suspended for not less than twenty (20) games. (For the purpose of
the rule, “intent to injure” shall mean any physical force which a player
knew or should have known could reasonably be expected to cause
injury.)
40.3 Automatic Suspension – Category II - Any player who deliberately
applies physical force to an official in any manner (excluding actions
as set out in Category I), which physical force is applied without intent
to injure, or who spits on an official, shall be automatically suspended
for not less than ten (10) games.

I don't think Wides intended to hurt Henderson. I still think he'll get 10+ games, however.

That clearly looked like deliberate abuse of an official.
Also, he was clearly woozy after the hit he took. If I'm the NHL, I am asking some very blunt questions of the Flames about why he didn't go to the quiet room.

Some people punch people in the face when they get scared and they're completely shocked and sorry afterwards. Just because it looks to be a evil violent act doesn't mean it is.
Clearly in his mind if he seen something last second, he's going to tense up enough to the point where he's properly prepared for a collision..He's not going to just throw his arms up and let them hit himself in the face along with the ref.. He would put enough force(maybe too little maybe too much) to be braced enough to not get hurt. You're storing kinetic energy in a muscle that is prepared for load, it's not just going to absorb and instantly dissipate. It's going to looks like a follow through, especially being two opposite colliding directions on ICE.
It's always going to look like a follow through regardless of intention. If he didn't spot him last second it would of been different obviously. So being that he did see him last second, he did the only thing he could do, try to turn or slow, hence him turning his skates. With those two things in mind (turning and follow through) it only leaves two options. Was he trying to hurt a ref or was it a reaction? I doubt he would level a ref.
Finally, if he was really trying to hurt him, at those speeds in both directions if he actually shoved violently instead of reactionary I have no doubt he would've almost done a front flip or landed face first.

The discipline will come out tomorrow, as it did with Lucic's suspension. We'll see.

20+ games is crazy talk. Sure, he could get suspended. But very few players get 20+ games

Looks like Wideman will be invoking the "twilight zone" defence if he is called up to an NHL hearing. He said in the post game presser he had no intention to hit the linesman.
Could be a 10 game suspension if contact made with an official without intention to injure.
