There is a big ol' dutch armada going on around Ferland for sure right now. Yes he has some decent upside but not top 6.
Does that take away from the player though? Not at all. He's on the RW with the #1 line because Frolik is/was hurt, Hudler is broken, Jones and Jooris have been tried etc etc...
Look, he's playing well. He has the potential to be that clutch 3rd liner in my eyes. and a utility top 6 when those ahead of him go down. Which is exactly what is happening right now.
Lucic? Come on. Thats some over hype.

Wow, maybe we should give Ferland more than 2 games in a prime role to determine his value. I wonder what Ferland would do with the 100 or so games with good players that Colborne has enjoyed? Ferland had more impact in one playoff series than Colborne has had in his entire tenure with the team. It is far to early to make proclamations on what Ferland is until he's actually given a chance.

Lucic was a 40 point player in his second year in the league. He was a menacing physical player every night (and not just in one 6 game series) and was fighting some of the toughest guys in the league. He scored 8 goals as a rookie getting rookie-callup minutes. As a 19 year old. Ferland will be 24 by the end of the season.
This is ludicrous hyperbole.
Ferland is a bottom 6 player on one of the worst teams in the NHL and other than a few instances hasn't shown any kind of offensive flair at the NHL level. It is likely he will continue to improve as a player, but until he scores say, 10 goals in a season, he's not going to be a top 6 player, even on a bad team like Calgary.
This is facepalm level hyperbole that I'd expect from Oiler fans about their latest and greatest. Josh Freakin' Jooris has more goals than Ferland THIS YEAR, and has a greater impact physically than Ferland has this season as well. In less games. In Ferland's first 60 games, he has 4 total goals. In Jooris' first 60 games, he had 12, aka, 3x as many. From the fourth line.
I'm seriously embarrassed for some of the posters around here. HF Boards level insight.

Well I guess you have much more insight than the Flames management group, who have been quoted as saying Ferland can be a top six player.
Just disagree and present your case sheesh. There's no need for all the dramatic proclamations that everyone who disagrees with you is off the deep end, guilty of ludicrous hyperbole, and embarrassing for the website.

Like someone else said earlier why not both. Hayes and Ferland can swap between the first and second line till our 2016 RW pick is ready to bump them down or one of them takes it and runs with it.

This. You're entitled to your opinion and people are allowed to disagree with you without you whipping out the thesaurus and the oiler fan talk.
Personally, I think Ferly will end up as a bottom six player but I'm not ready to completely write him off. That's the funny thing about predicting the future, you can never be 100% certain. In the end we won't see which side is right for a couple of years so I don't see a reason to get worked up one way or the other.

This is the same hyperbole I was addressing in my post.
I think I have a pretty good track record on CP judging the ability of players in the Flames system.
I never said everyone who disagrees with me is off the deepend, I said Flames Draft Watcher, who thinks Michael Ferland has Milan Lucic level upside, has gone off the deep end. A response quoting a single poster is pretty much as far from 'everyone' as you can get without talking to yourself.

Well here was my early thoughts on Brodie. Bet many of you didn't have the balls to say he had top pairing upside.

(pretty funny to see Moon being a negative nancy about Brodie's upside

I see huge upside in Ferland. Either you guys aren't looking closely or are blind or I'm dead wrong. Guess we'll see. He has top two line power forward potential. Love the kid.

I like your take, nothing wrong with it, but the Lucic comparison comes off really ambitious is all. Time will tell, but there's nothing wrong with Ferland being a really good pure 3rd liner either.

^To be fair there's a handful guys who were cautious about his projection, rest projected him to be really good, top pair, flames best dman in few years, comparisons to Keith etc.
I hope you're right about Ferland though. I think he has 1st line upside, not your typical 80 point player but 55 points and a pain in the ass while complimenting Gaudreau and Monahan.

I really like Ferland (my favorite player) but I think the Lucic comparison is crazy. I see more of a honest Ville Niemenen type player. Probably top 9, solid top 6 would be hopeful but unlikely though I can very well see him riding the coat tails on a Gaudreau-Monahan line (sometimes, a player just fits, like McAmmond on a Iginla line).
I don't think Flash is wrong, though I wouldn't write him off either... Lucic appears to be a far more intimidating, far more engaging player... and that gets him a lot of points.
BTW he has 7 total goals, not just 4.

Y'know, I think enough years have passed that we can stop bringing this up. It's been like two decades.
Hayes is a decent player in the right age range who plays the right position. Potential chemistry with Gaudreau is irrelevant. If there is any, it's a bonus. It's not the primary reason for acquiring Hayes. You might have a point if he was straight out of college, but he isn't. He can play in the NHL.
If Hnat scored 17 in his rookie season sans Iggy, then no one would ever bring him up. Because he'd be a good player. Which he wasn't. Which Hayes is.

Half the people in that thread that posted before you called him top pairing upside

Flames are missing 14-15 Hudler.
Monahan especially.
A long playoffs, where he got the crap kicked out of him (Regher in the LA clincher too), seems to have had him probably rest more in the offseason, and then not in top game shape from the start of the year...which leads to more injuries as we're seeing.
Monahan looks frustrated out there, as he's used to JG and Hudler out there with him, and now its him, JG and Mr. X (currently Ferland). With Hudler's injury issues, Hudler only has had flashses, and can't keep up with those guys due to above mentioned conditioning and then the injuries from that, yet he is still the skilled vet that those guys need. Monahan is looking for that pass either to, or from, the linemate that isn't Hudler, and it's not working and then he tries to hard to do it himself.
Far too early for making any proclamations on Ferland long term. He's got a long way to go mentally, skill wise, and physically, done on a consistent basis, to be a legit NHL top 6 forward. As per Bouma, that style is tough to play game in and game out, and I think Bouma's a better overall hockey player.

Monahan is frustrated and Johnny is really pressing out there.
Forwards need a shakeup of some type. Re-jig the lines, a call up, a benching (even for a period). Shake the team out of the current state.
