You can go through the list of current All Stars and find other examples of guys who have been suspended or at least fined for head shots. Local superstar Shea Weber comes to mind. Is this the kind of player you want represented at the All Star game? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyJB42HY_J0
You can also look at the list and find examples of guys that have been vastly out played by others in the league and don't deserve to be there based on merit. Pekka Rinne and his worse than Kari Ramo save percentage come to mind.
What do Weber and Rinne have in common? They play for the team hosting the All Star game. Go figure. I'm sure whatever criteria used to place them on the team was far more legitimate than whatever lead Scott to become captain.
And who is the captain of the Central Team? Why, none other than alleged sexual assault artist Patrick Kane. There's another guy you have to think twice about if you're going to take a sanctimonious approach to judging players the fans have voted to All Star captaincy. But he scores a ton so you can overlook his faults, I guess. Same goes for Buffalo superstar Ryan O'Reilly. Another fine role model set to take the ice in Nashville.

The NHL needed only to do what MLB did last season, or what everyone believes the NHL itself did with the Fitzgerald campaign: just arbitrarily throw out a pile of votes for "reasons". Everyone would have seen through it, of course, but everyone expected that. What people didn't expect was for Bill Daly to come out and say the league would honour the fan's vote. People are angry today because that was a promise the league reneged on.
Incidentally, letting someone like Scott play in the ASG is a far sight more respectable in my mind than for the league to simply not name Crosby to the game at all. Lets face the facts on that one too: the NHL knew Crosby wouldn't go and took the easy way out rather than suspend one of the league's big stars - again - for failing to take this thing seriously.

LOL at someone who voted for Scott saying the NHL isn't taking the ASG seriously. Somehow I don't think they give a crap what Scott voters think.

Yes, we are already well aware of the fact that the NHL doesn't give a crap what the fans think.

Now we're getting somewhere. With that epiphany in mind, how can you possibly care so much? You're acting like the NHL is unique here. The league exists to make money, nothing else matters. They only care about the 'fans' at the presice point when they stop giving them money. Complaining is pointless, they're probably laughing their asses off right now.

No, I am not acting like the NHL is unique here. Especially when the post you quoted literally spoke of other leagues doing similar. So please, don't try to state my opinions on my behalf. You clearly are not qualified to do so.
As I have noted elsewhere, my issue here is with the duplicity of the league in stating it would respect the fans' choice before engineering an action that disrespected the fans' choice. Like I said, the NHL had ways of getting out of this before he was named to the game, but they instead chose to go about it in just about the worst way possible.

If that is true then that's a terrible business plan. Any business has to retain customers and gain new ones. The customer is king.

Whatever they're doing is clearly working. Revenues have increased unimpeded for years. The only thing slowing them down recently is the fledgling Canadian dollar.
The entertainment industry can't be compared to retail in the same sense that companies in that industry have to kiss the asses of its entitled customers constantly. It's not like there's another NHL for you to start watching because this one pissed you off. They have us where they want us and they know it.

how mad would the NHL be if a team sent a 7th to Montreal for John Scott and held him up in the NHL till after the all star game just so he could attend.

Montreal wouldn't accept. They're doing a favour to Arizona and the league. Maybe the next time Subban or Gallagher throw a dirty hit the league will look the other way. Or maybe Arizona will not claim a waiver or maybe they'll accept a future considerations trade to clear up a Montreal roster spot.
Obviously Arizona owes the league some major favours from all the owner uncertainties and years of financial worries, so this was their way of giving something back.

The NHL is not run by great businessmen, it's run by big egos. You sprinkle in some former player hotheads with really questionable qualifications and this is where we are.

I dont think I'd agree with that statement.
Most of the owners, if not all of them, are excellent businessmen. So much so in fact that they have enough income to be able to own and invest in sports franchises.
Very few of them operate an NHL team as a primary source of business revenue.

Oh I agree with this for sure.
I'm amazed on how poorly all sorts of organizations handle online voting. Heck CP forced TSN to force a change to 1 v 1 by voting for Johnny until they had to "retire" his play.
They just don't think through this stuff fully.

In hindsight Scott probably should've bowed out right away. Would've saved him the embarrassment and probably forced trolls to split their vote
